When Mail drafts are not actual "drafts" Yahoo Mail

I created a draft email within Yahoo Mail (web version) and my private ISP email account.

I then went to my PC and accessed the same draft email with eM Client, but the email is actually not editable, per se. I must reply to the DRAFT email to continue to compose or edit it

The only email services that eM Client treats as actual “editable” drafts are Hotmail (Outlook live) and Gmail).

The work around is to “Forward as Original” but you lose the address information. This seems to be only an issue when you don’t compose a DRAFT in eM Client.

This is an issue with the Yahoo! server. For some unknown reason it removes the draft flag on the message so you can’t edit it.

There is a workaround for this though. Go to Menu > Accounts and click on the Diagnostics tab for your Yahoo! account. In the Advanced Options Parameters box, paste in this text:

--imap-messages-in-drafts-folder-are-drafts

Click on Save & Close and restart eM Client. It will force all messages in the Drafts folder to be editable, no matter what the Yahoo! server says.

Ah good info @Gary I will update that in my own Yahoo IMAP account :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Gary,

Just wanted to say thanks for this! It really helped.

Hopefully it can be added by default in the future.

When drafts aren’t editable - Same for Westnet, now passed off to the Messaging Company.
I note it does not work for my mobile version of the app.
Just checking, that’s a double dash at the start of the string?

Same problem but in mobile. Yahoo! draft mail saved in desktop client now not showing as draft on mobile app. How do I fix this?

@giaxou

See my post link in the following thread where this same string " @Gary advised (might also work) for the mobile app" as in the Droid example.

Thank you

Nope. Didn’t work…

Then you might have wait for the next mobile app beta update when released hopefully not far away.

I tested this string using the eM Client Droid app V10.2.1605 and “it does work for me personally using a yahoo.com account”.

So make sure you have the string typed in “exactly as Gary posted” with the two dashes in front. If you already do, could be you have a eg: hidden character in the advanced field.

Note: I copied and pasted it directly into the app from Gary’s post above (and didn’t type it in).

  1. First, I don’t like MS Outlook. That is why I bought eM Client.
  2. But, If the issue is with the Yahoo email server, then I assert that MS Outlook handles this situation out-of-the-box better than eM Client. That is why there are so many posts on this subject. Perhaps the workaround should be the default setting when configuring Yahoo accounts?
  3. Thanks for the info. It fixed this issue with my Yahoo accounts.

thank you for following up - I copy/pasted as you proposed and it works

The problem was that the double dash at the front had somehow been replaced by a long-dash symbol as a result of some auto-correct function when I typed it in the past.

I copied this in both the win10 desktop and the android versions of the app.

Thanks very much indeed

I noticed this is plaguing me too. How to add more than one advanced parameter there? @cyberzork

eM Client certainly doesn’t like Yahoo!

I noticed this is plaguing me too. How to add more than one advanced parameter there?

I would suggest for that question, if you have a current active paid Pro or Personal version, go to the VIP support page and login and lodge a support ticket

Why? That response is completely unhelpful and ignores the question.

I’m not asking for support access—I asked a straightforward technical question about whether multiple advanced parameters can be added in the Advanced Options section of eM Client, and how to do it if so.

If the UI doesn’t support multiple parameters, just say that. Deflecting to VIP support for a basic functionality clarification is a waste of time and effort. If you don’t know the answer, say that too—but don’t pretend redirecting is an actual answer.

Ive not seen anything on this free community forum to enter multiple advanced parameters for this Yahoo issue. My own Yahoo account works fine with just the single parameter in this thread.

So thats why i advised to lodge a support ticket for offical support for multiple advanced parameters.

But if you don’t have a paid version, then if another community forum member does know, then they will update this thread.

The only thing that i can suggest is to eg: “try pressing the space bar after the current parameter” and then enter whatever other advanced parameter you want.
