ok interesting, this would solve several of the problems we were running into. The other major problem was message threading:
Are there any plans to look at this? This is blocking us (SME company) from migrating.

We were Postbox users for business for over 10 years, switched to eMClient and although I like some of the features in eMClient, it’s taken a LOT of hours to get it tuned to use effectively. And some things are still not working and their support is a bit lackluster. It lacks a lot of Postbox’s intuitive features like grouped mailboxes with separate inboxes/etc, but it does have Online Meeting integration with Zoom and Google Meet and Microsoft Teams so you can schedule right from the email with invitees etc which is time-saver. That feature for us is, currently, not working as no Zoom link is sent with the calendar invite so that’s a ticket in with eMClient and hoping it can be fixed. It’s AI feature uses ChatGPT, but we bought 7 Lifetime licenses and were just told that the AI is not included in the Lifetime license, only subscription, without an added fee so that’s dumb. It cost us about $500 for the 7 Lifetime licenses with the Postbox 50% discount. It will handle multi-email accounts for each of our users, which is nice, but settings take a lot to get used to. If you change a setting, it affects ALL of the email accounts, like Threaded Conversations, so you can’t have threads in one account you manage, it is all or nothing. It does handle aliases for accounts, that’s a plus. But Contacts are a mess and, after much back and forth, it was necessary to go into all of our company Gmail account interfaces for our custom domains and fix all the contacts and allow eMClient to retrieve them from there because the import of our Address Books from Postbox resulted in a million duplicates in different “Contact” folders in eMClient. I’ve downloaded and tried about 6 other services, including Thunderbird and Mailbird, and they don’t have enough customization of the UI for us at all - they are basic clients and that’s frustrating if you are used to Postbox customization. We are using eMClient v10 for Mac, we all have M2 Silicon Macs and performance is good, but only if you get the settings right for downloading all the images associated with emails, which increases the size of the application folders a lot. All in all, we are suffering through a necessary change, and missing Postbox for sure. eMClient is promising to integrate a lot of the user-requested features from Postbox in the next release, we’ll see if it happens.
@ocmarketer
I have used many mail programs: Exchange Mail, Outlook (old versions), Entourage, Outlook for Mac (old versions), TheBat!, Thunderbird (in use), Betterbird, Seamonkey, Mulberry, Apple Mail (in use), Postbox, eM Client (in use).
Tested for some time: Eudora, Evolution, Pegasus, Outlook Express
At working: Lotus Notes
The ones I liked the most.
On Mac: Outlook 2011 for Mac, Apple Mail, Postbox, Thunderbird
On Windows: Outlook (old versions), TheBat!
eM Client still has a lot to do to be considered suitable for me in the long term. I’ve already voiced my criticisms here several times.
A Brief History of Email Apps
As I already mentioned, grouped accounts and profiles are already in development.
So glad to hear.
Quick filing of emails (and ability to repeat the operation to the same folder) is so key (and is also what has made Gmail’s labels so useful)
Isn’t that a bit hasty? Does everyone need these “modern features”? Not me, at any rate, who continues to use POP happily for the dozen or so e-mail addresses I manage. It would be interesting to know what percentage of EMC users use POP.
I use pop exclusively. Since eM doesn’t play well with gmail pop, I’m waiting to see what features get added. I would consider imap depending.

Why do you still need POP mail with Gmail ?
Is it due to eg: you don’t want to pay for Google space, or you just don’t like having your email all in the cloud and you only want it on local devices.
I prefer to have complete control over how I organize my email on my computer. Since I’m not a power user, I have no need of many features others use.
If eM could have as much of the ease of user interface that Postbox has, I would be willing to possibly go to imap. So far, it doesn’t.
Ex - I can’t have mailboxes open as tabs across the top of the main window. The keyboard shortcuts are VERY limited, etc.
I’m sticking with Postbox and watching to see what happens with eM as things go. Hopefully, by the time Postbox is out of commission for me, eM will have what I need.

I’m also not a power user and only enable the basic features I need using eM Client. You can just disable whatever you don’t need in th GUI.

There is a Sleekplan suggestion you can vote on for emails opening in Tabs.
The keyboard shortcuts are VERY limited.
There is a Sleekplan suggestion for more Quick move shortcuts to be added.
Also there is alot of other Sleekplan requests for different keyboard shortcuts you can also vote by clicking the following link.

From reading the forum threads and Sleekplan suggestions from Postbox users, I’m sure eM Client will have alot of those Postbox features soon. So as @Michal_Burger advised, make sure to vote for what you want on the Sleekplan page.
First of all, to be fair, it has to be said that Postbox is also full of eternal bugs that have not been fixed for years. These have been reported by me several times and I have been using Postbox since version 3. So Postbox is not the perfect mail app that is often portrayed here
I like eM Client quite a lot, it also has some functions that I found lacking in Postbox. And if the mobile client is also good (not yet tested), then eM Client really is an alternative. But the basic features of Postbox really need to be integrated soon, so:
Import of “responses” from Postbox to eMClient “Quicktexts” (from Postbox this is a json file, which should be able to be imported)
Shortcut/search function for the quick texts (like CMD+L in Postbox)
Go-to-Folder function with corresponding shortcut. See Quick move mail to folder / go to folder | Mail | eM Client
Freely assignable shortcuts for the labels (e.g. key 1, 2 or 3) see here emclient.sleekplan.app/feedback/190596
The “File size” column is somehow missing in the overview, can only be selected under “Outbox”. Need this in in all views (therefor in message list)
For folders with many subfolders (several thousand), eMClient takes several minutes to open the directory tree (waiting circle is running), despite offline download/synchronization of all folders/mails
Favorites bar
User-defined placeholders (see here Upgrade to have quicktexts look more like responses in postbox | Mail | eM Client)
Some things are already planned for the next update. When are the placeholders planned? This is an important tool that I need every day.
Greetings
Nage
Is it irony? IMAP is not really a “modern feature” or protocol. POP3 is really like MS DOS. Of course you can use it, but why?
Why not both?
I use both!
I migrated from Postbox. The biggest issue I’ve had so far with emClient is that their import from Postbox is hit or miss. Some rules imported ok, others didn’t. All of them had to be updated and corrected. Their rules wizard doesn’t support sender name, it has to be the email address. Which sucks for companies that switch out their underlying sender email, but maintain the same sender name. Also one of the dialog windows is modal, so can make creating rules tedious if you are trying to go back to the original email to copy something from it for the rule. Trying to run your rules to test them is a PITA as you have to constantly set the folder to run the rules on instead of it defaulting to inbox like practically every other email client out there does.
Yes, I have already voted. As I sad, I am waiting to see what’s implemented.
I prefer to not have outside interference of my email in any way, as much as possible. Downloaded and backed up, I don’t have to worry about what gmail may do, or if I make a mistake and it gets mirrored.
Thanks for the reply, it’s great that it’s all planned. I hope it will be implemented soon
With the variables I do not mean the predefined variables, but user-defined variables, see my example at: Upgrade to have quicktexts look more like responses in postbox | Mail | eM Client
POP3 is really outdated, just the fact that it cannot be used properly on 2 or more devices is already a contra. POP3 is a protocol that was used in the 80/90s when you still had 1 device and nothing mobile
Yes it is.
And yet it works for me with no issues and fits how I like to organize my email.
At the point in time when it no longer serves me, I’ll shift.
