May one day it will happen Linux support

@Michal_Burger Thank you for this informative post. I very briefly tried to run an existing eM Client Windows executable on a recent Ubuntu MATE Linux, but didn’t get far. Now I understand why; the libraries eM Client uses are not available on Linux. I understand the potential customer base for Linux is small compared to Windows, and even to Mac. Perhaps once the Chrome version is working, getting that version run under Linux will be a manageable effort.

2025 and we are still looking for linux support.

Get a MAC and half or a third of RAM and storage you can get from other companies.
All Apple is selling is the design, that when first iPhone was shown it was something.
Now other companies make fine machines.

Hi,
Have been with EMClient several years now and will continue as long as I still have Windows on a computer. 2 of them are now on POP_OS! and the third will be also, when I find apps that I need and so far not have found on Linux.
Not all Linux users are going only for what is free, if that was so there would not be so many distributions as few people will be able to live without an income.
Yes I will pay for a Linux version just like I paid for the Windows version I have.
Greetings to Stepan Busek and Juraj Micek.

I bought an eM Client license a few years back with lifetime upgrades. I’ve been using eM Client under Windows 11.

But Microsoft continues to give its customers more and more reasons to leave its platform, and I am one of the growing number of people who is fed up. Based on what I see on distrowatch.com, I plan to move over to Linux Mint. It is a very popular version of Linux that is reported to be stable and friendly to ex-Windows users.

The momentum is growing behind the movement to leave Microsoft. Please add my vote to the growing pool of people who need a Linux version of eM Client.

funny to read that they spent a lot of money for a Mac version, but Mac users will only use Apple software..

3 months from now, Microsoft will terminate Win 10 support. For many users, there is no way to change to Win 11, and I expect, that the number of “switchers” to Ubunto, Mint or any other of Linux distributions will grow rapidly. So I will, but my biggest concern is eM client. Using for many years, accumulated a lot of emails - all this will be lost. I tried Ubuntu already, and I could not find a solution to import my emails to any other Linux mail application.
So I vote for a Linux version of eM Client - even if it’s not free.

3 months from now, Microsoft will terminate Win 10 support. For many users, there is no way to change to Win 11.

Can you not then just buy a new cheap replacement Win 11 compatible motherboard or replacement mini pc box or tower box pc ?.

There is lots of eg: “near new” replacement motherboards or replacement mini PC or tower only boxes relatively cheap by private and other resellers you can buy online from many websites.

Or you could get a eg: second hand Mini Mac (M series) and plug that into your current PC monitor, mouse and keyboard. I’ve done that.

You can then keep eM Client. No need to go to Linux. It’s very unlikely eM Client will ever do a Linux version due to the “very small global user base”. So my advise is stick with Win or Mac.

@cyberzork
Thank you for yr comments.
To buy another equipment that fullfills Win11 hardware requirements, is exactly what Microsoft wants. Not me. I am not willing to throw away my 2 notebooks just because MS decided to expand its monopoly position.
Moreover, Windows sucks - Win11 even more than Win10, updates anytime you want to use the PC, and it’s the OS with the highest vulnerability. Time to say good bye.
And if eM Client is ready to serve rather iOS / MAC than Linux - so what.
I found Thunderbird a good alternative to eM Client, and it’s from Mozilla foundation, not commercial.

If you dont want to update to a new Pc or Mac to keep eM Client, then maybe the upcoming eM Client “Chromebook Android version” might suit you on an inexpensive eg: Chromebook laptop.

@cyberzork
There is a Chrome OS Flex version that fits to any PC. But it’s from Google, the utmost data octopus. And Chrome OS Flex is very limited re. the available apps. Not comaparable to Linux Mint

A joke, isn’t it?

And thats a shame … :frowning:

Bad advice. Sorry. :-1:

funny to read that they spent a lot of money for a Mac version, but Mac users will only use Apple software..

That’s a wildly inaccurate statement.

In my area of work, every single Mac user is using a broad range of apps (including some very specialized ones) which are not developed by Apple.

Please refrain from bashing other users on this forum.

If there would be a lot of interest in a Linux version, remember to vote for it using Sleekplan, rather than only mentioning it in the forum:

If the development costs might be considered too high and for an uncertain return, I wonder if a Kickstarter (or equivalent) campaign might help here? A commitment from Linux users to the company to pay, in order to make it worthwhile for the eM Client team? The company may or may not agree to this, though, so it is just an idea!

Hey @DenalB

Maybe “could be more”, however, I believe it would need to be in the
10’s of thousands before LINUX development could be considered.
