Upgrade to v8 - full disaster

Hi !

Two days ago, eM Client propose me to upgrade to version 8. As I use it from a long time ago and had no problems with upgrades, I immediately decide to upgrade. Bad decision.

Upgrade process went smooth and everything finished OK.

New client starts and while I’m looking at new UI it close with an error - eM Client has stopped working. (Windows 7 x64 latest patches)

I start it again. It starts to check for corrupted database and after that it starts to check for Inconsistent Data. All this checks take a time, but both finished with success and program starts normally. But After 10 seconds (approximately) it crash again.

I uninstall client and install it again.

Same result.

Then I decide to go back to version 7.

I uninstall v.8 client and install v.7 client.

When it starts it start checking also for corrupted database and check pass successfully.

Then it start checking for Inconsistent Data and check fails with error which main idea was - that it finds v.3 of database when expecting v.1. I suppose that new client updates database.

Then I uninstall v.7 and install v8 again.

Result was the same. Again two checks, again they finished successfully and again crashes after 10 sec (new mail arrive during that period). As I dig in the internet and someone was mentioned that there could be problems with rules from old version in new. Using that 10 sec. window I manage to uncheck all my rules, but result was the same.

Current status is completely not working eM Client and I’m stuck not knowing what to do next.

Any help or advice will be appreciated !

The same thing is happening to me. I have to uninstall it and reinstall version 7. Verson 7 then have the same database issues. Had to delete my database to get version 7 to work

I do have exactly the same Problem, after a few seconds it crashes.

Is it a Bug or is it a Feature?

Similar problems here.

  1. first I get TWO emails telling me that V8(.0.2951) is available so I start the client and install (and delete the two mails)
  2. then I get to run new eMc - which takes FOR EVER TO LOAD …
  3. then I try to use it and the GUI is all changed (for what reason?) and I have to set it up like I USED to have it so that I can use it
  4. then I start trying to use the CALENDAR which
    4.1 crashes eMc when trying to edit an event
    4.2 doesn’t maintain google event calendars (which I think the old one didn’t either)
  5. then I get ANOTHER email telling me V8 is available!

Here’s a question for eMc management: what CUSTOMER requests/requirements had you received to go about implementing an upgrade? or was it (like SO MANY OTHER apps) because you wanted to do something new? How about fixing existing bugs before you do any further upgrades (and stop sending me repetitive emails)

After iteration with start, check, open GUI and 10 second crash in log directory are generated 3 new files. I’ll sent their content with changed personal information.

Same issue.
Rolled back to ver 7 with database loss.

I have the same issue and cant roll back to v7. No response from support after 5 days. Not happy as I will be losing work because of this. I will be asking for my money back if they do not fix this soon

Obviously new version has huge problems (if it starts at all). My opinion is based on all other reports that I read.

Strange thing is, that there is no any information from developer, or at least in that forum. It will be interesting, is there any response on open tickets in pro support. It’ll be good if somebody with pro support could share information.

At least I expect a new version, which will try to fix some of major faults.

But nothing on a horizon …

If somebody has any information, I’ll be glad if he share it.

I’m sad to hear all this. I am holding off on my upgrade for better stability of v8. It looks so promising. I am a developer and go through this cycle myself in the name of progress, it’s not my favorite thing bringing stability back to a product. Lots of long nights for sure!

yessss, terribly sad too, reading all people’s problems in the forum. Every day happens new problems, new troubles, new folks which loose all their stuff
I was very near to jump to emc v.8 but now i stopped everything.
I’ll remain with my old “thebat” for very long time more, almost, until new version of emc will be out, well written and ready to get all my work.
Seeing all people for downgrade request to v.7, really shatter my spine. :woozy_face:

When is version 8 going to be fixed? I haven’t been able to check email for 1 month now!!! Sorry I ever bought this.

I’m asking myself same question. No answers, no new version.
In other posts, there are people defending v8 and explaining that the faults are almost our problem.
And how fast and reliable support responds. It smells of an person from a company hiding like a user.
I have no pro license, and I can’t open the ticket, but as I see, tjmac both the software and I wan to ask,
is it the same with opened tickets in pro support portal ?

To be honest, I’m in your position on desktop. Good that on notebook I have outlook, which I’m using now.

I had many problems with betas, but hey - who upgrade program without made backup of old database? You can do it by copying files or using internal function to create backup. You can even copy everything (including program itself from “Program Files x86”) and revert back using just copy function. I made it lot of times using earlier versions of beta. It’s obvious that new version will have new database format that must handle new functions.

It’s a shame that eM Client 8 was released soo fast, probably way too early, but in my case all major problems related to emails/crashes was resolved and now I’m using stable version on three computers without any problem. Maybe because I was active during beta testing?

Covid or not, but the fact that no one from team gets in touch to any of that many bug threads makes me think if its still worth buying that client??? So far i say no. All alarms are set.
Even Microsoft responds faster to error requests. And that means something!

I’m myself guilty to be in that situation. No questions about it.
But keep silence and pretend that there is no problems at all also is not a normal behavior. Isn’t it ?

I’m having the same problem, the program just stops responding and I have to use the task manager to get back control of the PC. It’s very poor after paying money. It also seems to have installed a 32 bit version. I’m awaiting response from support.

There were A LOT of things I didn’t like about version 8. The way it looked, harder to read in places, some functionality was gone, etc… I un-installed and went back to the most recent version 7. That worked fine, except the small window with un-dismissed calendar reminders is no longer working. Darn.

I am up to date on Windows 10.

I may have to stay with version 7 for the rest of my life, unless the Em Client developers do a much better job with a future version.

Fuhur – I wonder if the un-install of version 8 didn’t clean up completely and there are still v. 8 EMC files hanging around? Did you check for that?

Trying to use release 8.0.2951.0 in Win 10. At start up it normally freezes. Can see list of inbox items but none of their content shown in the pane. Then run repair numerous times, roboot numerous times, uninstall, reinstall, use different backup versions and eventually it isn’t frozen. Life is too short for all this hassle every day. My recollection is that this didn’t happen for first few days after upgrade, but now does it every day.

On latest attempt I do have one error “Exiting GPU process due to errors during initialization” - may be a red herring though
