I decided to try the earlier tweak on this forum re: syncing notes with a Microsoft account (which i still have as 365 Basic account) by setting up the MS account as an Exchange account. Trying to set up the connection, i get an error “The server was found, but authentication failed.
If it’s a Microsoft 365 Basic (Personal account) you carn’t setup as Exchange as Microsoft no longer allow personal accounts to be setup as exchange. You only have access in eM Client to Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks and setup via the “Automatic account wizard” at the top.
To then access Notes, you go to One Note online via a browser and you can also use the One Note app on your mobile devices.
I also have a work O365 account and i decided to try the same, but got exactly the same result.
Normally a MS Office 365 account will automatically setup ok via OAuth using the “Automatic account wizard”. It includes, Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks & Notes as per the following eM Client page.
https://www.emclient.com/em-with-microsoft-office-365
“eM Client with Microsoft 365”
Extract - “eM Client integrates email, calendars, tasks, contacts and notes in a clean and simple desktop app”
You can also “as well” access Notes via One Note online via a browser and you can also use the One Note app on your mobile devices
Trying to set up the connection, i get an error “The server was found, but authentication failed.
That normally only happens if either your MS account is either not active, or you have the wrong password, or possibly could be if you have an outdated or older version of eM Client and might need updating depending on what you are using. Or you might have an OS problem.
So if you can login ok via Outlook.com with your Microsoft personal or Office 365 email address and password but setting up using the Automatic account wizard or manual Outlook setup fails, then update “what version of eM Client you are using” and also “what OS and version” you have.
One other reason where you can get authentication failed setting up a MS Office 365 or Exchange Domain account.
if you type in your usual email address in the wizard and it won’t accept it for a Microsoft 365 or Exchange Domain account, it could be that you eg: might need to use a “.onmicrosft address” to start in the wizard instead of your actual email address as @Simon9 posted in the eM Client forum thread further down.
A onmicrosoft.com account is a domain name that Microsoft creates for a company or school that signs up for an Office 365 for Business subscription.

“emClient requires .onmicrosoft address to start”
“It forms the login name for the Microsoft account, for 365 and for exchange server, but it is not my e-mail address”.
