Search Folders in em client similar to Postbox Focus Pane

I’m coming from Postbox. Seems in em client i can set search parameters (menu option, right hand end of search bar) and an option is Create Search Folder. A new entry appears on the left side panel under Search Folders.

If I’ve entered an email address for From in the search parameters, then the Search Folder lets me filter to messages from that contact. Over on the right hand side, on the Contact panel, an option is Attachments, so now I have access to all the recent attachments from that contact.

Similarly with “Date within” I can set for instance One Day and create the search folder to filter to email from the past one day. Seems functionally similar to the focus pane.

I’d love to see eM Client port the Focus Pane from Postbox.

My use case: I pretty much never show my Mailboxes Panel in Postbox (keyboard navigation makes it almost entirely unnecessary, and that’s the killer feature I’ll need to commit to eM Client), but my Focus Panel stays open all the time, and it’s chock full of my most-used “favorites”:

I can get by with Favorites in the left-side panel of eM Client ifIF the devs add a keyboard shortcut (ideally, user configurable) to toggle the Mailboxes sidebar. Quite frankly, it’s mind-boggling that there isn’t a keyboard shortcut already — for both the left and right sidebars.

And there really should be (user-configurable) shortcuts to toggle each section of the Mailboxes Panel (Favorites, and each account). I used my whole Focus Pane in Postbox, and putting that much stuff in the eM Client Favorites would just make for clutter.

I really hope eM Client ports over other killer features that would be hard to live without, like tabbed browsing (#1 most important usability feature in a mail app, and it’s shocking how few mail apps have it), a favorites bar, domain fencing (if you start writing a personal email from a work account, the app turns your recipient RED to alert you), being able to choose an alternative SENT folder, and a few others. I’m going to be making a thread about my “please port” Postbox features soon.

Yes, I add my vote for toggle-by-keyboard the account list or better yet, a separate Favorites Folder or just “Favorites” so we can keep our hands on the keyboard and not have to go for the mouse. Keyboard commands become second nature with muscle memory and is so much more efficient than using the mouse.

I’d love to see eM Client port the Focus Pane from Postbox.

I would then suggest to go to the Sleekplan Share and Vote for ideas page and put that Suggestion.

There is a current suggestion on the Sleekplan page below where you can vote for that idea.

a favorites bar

You can customize th eM Client Toolbar along the top to have whatever email options you want via 'right clicking" on the toolbar as in th example below. Does this do what you want ?

Or is the Favourites Bar in Postbox different ?

image

I see in your Postbox screenshot you also appear to have another toolbar near the top that has “email accounts” on it Yahoo, Gmail etc. Is that the Favourites bar you are referring to, and is that standard with Postbox ? Or a eg: Plugin ?

I see too you have “Favourite Topics in Post Box” on the left.

You can setup similar with “eM Client Tags” if you haven’t seen those already, to quickly open specific messages. You can name them whatever you like, and assign them any colour you like, as well as sort them in any order you like. See my post further down on how to setup Tags and assign a tag to a message.

I see too you also have customized “Attributes” at the top left of Postbox.

In eM Client “Favourites” at the top left of eM Client “you can customise that” to show whatever you like as in my customized example below.

You can “right click” on the word Favourites in eM Client and then click “Display” and choose whatever you want to appear under Favourites. Also you can “right click on any account folder” and choose “Add to Favourites”, or you can drag any account folder under Favourites as well.

Thanks for the detailed reply, @cyberzork !

Yep, that’s the one.

I do see that, but the Focus Pane being its own thing in Postbox means you can not have to display the Mailboxes pane at all. If eM Client had keyboard shortcuts for showing/hiding that pane, that would be one thing. But having to click it open/closed all day long is a hassle.

Thanks for the tips on tagging. I was starting to explore that myself. I find it difficult to find how to control features like this in eM Client. Instead of having one place to find and control such features as tags, rules, fonts, layouts, accounts, etc., — i.e., Settings — in eM Client, those tools are scattered all over the place, and the user has to hunt, and hunt, and hunt to find them. Accounts is in the eM Client menu. Tags and Rules are in the Tools menu, but shortcuts, which are very clearly a “tool” for using the app, are only found in Settings, and so on.
Even within Settings, it’s hard to guess where some features my be. Very convoluted UX.

Do you know where to change the line height for text? I need more “breathing room” in the text of incoming mail and especially in the compose screen. I have a hard time with text that’s so bunched together.

Do you know where to change the line height for text?

If you are referring to the “Line Spacing” between the text when composing i don’t think there is any adjustment in eM Client atm, however if there is and option, someone will update this thread.

I can see someone submitted recently a “Feature Request” for Line Spacing when composing.

You can however change the Reading and Composing Font height “Size” in “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / Mail/ Read & Compose”

image

If you are wanting to change heights of rows or font heights etc “in the sidebar and subject”, go to “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / Appearance / Lists” and you can change those under “Fonts” & “Row Dimensions”.

Just change an option and then click “Apply” without saving Settings to see how it looks. Then Save and Close when you have it how you like it.

If that’s not what you mean if you can update a example screenshot of what you want to change.

I mean in the body of emails:

You would need to change the Font and Size & Style in Settings. Try changing Fonts.

BTW, @cyberzork , thank you for all the time you’re spending on the forums helping frustrated Postbox users. I very much appreciate your efforts.

Exact same font in Postbox and eM Client: Helvetica 16.

I’ve tried several fonts. It makes no difference in the line spacing.

Also, I just tried that again, and no matter what font I chose (and I do remember to SAVE), it doesn’t change the font in the next email I begin. That wasn’t happening yesterday.

There is no vertical line spacing adjustment in the compose window I’m aware of currently as advised further up, but there is however a feature request for that by another user via this link.

If changing the font & style and size is not changing in the compose after saving settings when you begin your next email, then sounds like some default setting has changed in the program somewhere.

Try closing all your eM Client windows “apart from the main GUI” and then right click in the body of any email and select Zoom / Original on the menu.

Then open a new compose window and type some text and then again right click and select Zoom / Original. Next close eM Client. Then reopen eM Client and try changing the default compose font in Settings / Mail / Compose section, and then see if they stay changed when you begin a new email.

Failing that, if you made a previous day eM Client backup either manually via the menu or setup automatic periodic backups via the Settings, try restoring the backup via “Menu / File / Restore” where it then will be the same as on that day.

Now if you haven’t made any eM Client backups yet since installing eM Client, then suggest to just try “uninstalling the program” and reinstalling and see if that fixes it.

If you have Windows when uninstalling, “don’t delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard, and then re-download and install “the same or later version” of eM Client via the release history page.

If you have a Mac just close eM Client and “drag the eM Client icon in Applications to the bin”. Then download and install eM Client again also via the release history page “which will also pickup your existing database”.

There seems to be a whole different forum for feature suggestions. Here’s the post I created for line spacing Change line spacing | New Feature | eM Client
