Next mail message is marked read when I close one above it

The next mail message is marked read when I close one above it after reading it. I have checked all preferences for mail, but do not see how to disable this. I am not reading the next message, but it gets unbolded to mean it has been read. How can I correct this issue?

Have you tried disabling “Mark messages read after displaying for X seconds in Settings”, and then just “manually right clicking the message subject to mark as read” after reading ?

So don’t have them automatically read.

In V10 you can uncheck that via “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / Mail / Read”

You can also “manually mark messages as read” via the Toolbar along the top, or by clicking the little circle on the left of the subject as in my below post for toggling read and unread

You can click “Mark as Read or Mark as Unread” via the “Mark” toolbar buttons along the top. To enable that, “Right click” in the blank area at the end of the toolbar and click “Customize”. Apart from disabling the mark messages read after X secs time and then manually marking messages as read, you could alt just eg: set / adjust the mark messages read x time “to read after alot longer secs” so then it stays uread longer and then doesn’t change to read straight away.

Thanks - I already had that check box unmarked. I am not doing anything to that next message. I read one message and close it and then the next message is marked as read. It does not happen all of the time - but pretty sporadically, and then for a while, and then it corrects itself.
