I’m using eM Client v10.3.1720 under macOS 15.4.1, in conjunction with a Microsoft Office 365 service (eM Client is set up with Exchange services). I’ve been noticing over the past few days that my Drafts folder is growing.
When I look inside, I see multiple copies of draft messages that I’ve been working on, saved a few minutes apart. I believe this is because of the selected tick box option within eM Client to save drafts every X minutes.
What is surprising me, however, is that the drafts are not being deleted when the message is finally sent, which would be what I’d expect when using Outlook, for example. Is that the intended behaviour? Have I missed a setting? Or might this be a bug?
Today, I tested v10.1.4828 under macOS 15.4 and found it did not leave multiple drafts undeleted after sending. This is only happening with v10.3.1720 for me and I’ll be manually cleaning up dozens of drafts remaining in the folder.
Any ideas or do I need to open a VIP Support case?
I personally carn’t replicate that problem on my Mac OS 15.4 with the same v10.3.1720 using my own IMAP accounts. So could possibly be an issue with Exchange type accounts or something else affecting your specific account in some way.
The only time I’ve had that happen with any version of eM Client, is when I have forgotten I already had draft emails and started new mails so then ended up having to delete drafts later.
Ah! OK, thanks for letting me know, @cyberzork, much appreciated.
I was about to post an update but you got in there first. I’ve been going back through eM Client (both 10.1 and 10.3) and Outlook in parallel. I noticed a few things:
Messages sent from 10.3 earlier this week were still present as multiple drafts (saved every few minutes while composing them) within my Drafts folder; they’d not been cleared out when sending
Use of 10.1 from later on during the week didn’t have this issue
Checking Outlook, the draft messages lingering in the Drafts folder are real
Using 10.3 today, the situation may have changed and copies might not be stuck in the Drafts folder; drafts composed today do not show up in Outlook like they did earlier this week
But… there are messages visible in Drafts. Checking Properties, it emerges the ones sent today are part of a conversation and are found in Sent or in my Inbox, but are showing in Drafts. Switching Conversations on/off makes these recent drafts disappear from the Drafts folder, but not the ones from earlier in the week.
There may be different things going on (e.g. a server issue vs. the way Conversations work, and I’m getting used to them). I’ll contact Support, but thought I’d provide an update in case it is of use to anyone else too.
I submitted a case for VIP Support at the weekend and they got in touch the next day. They provided a link to a development version (v10.3.1808) and I did a quick test.
I began a draft and then edited it three times at three minute intervals. Under the previous version, I would have seen three, separate drafts being saved and then they would not be removed after sending. With v10.3.1808, I monitored the Drafts folder and only saw one draft present and being updated. When I sent my message, the draft disappeared from Drafts, as it should.
I’ve only done one test, but it looked promising. Hopefully this means the development version, and next release version therefore, fixes this issue for anyone who had it!
I may have spoken too soon. It looks like it doesn’t save multiple copies of a draft message anymore, which is good, but the Inbox and Sent items are appearing in the Drafts Conversations/threads. I’m passing this information on to Support…
