You can edit the Theme to change the background “for new Unread emails” via reading this thread. This will make the background like a banner to standout.

Color for new unread Emails

But that’s not a solution. I’d like to mark important emails in a thread, for example, without marking them as unread. Because the mark would be removed every time I opened that email.

I only aware of Unread emails that can have a differant background / color. If there is a way to include read emails as well for specific senders, someone will update this thread.

You can mark it with tag and there is a setting to display messages in a list with the font color based on tag color.
