From Postbox to eM Client worth it?

Hello @Michal_Burger

First of all, thank you for the great update, it reads well.

What about these two things that would be a gamechanger when switching to eM Client:

  • Import of “responses” from Postbox to eMClient “Quicktexts” (from Postbox this is a json file, which should be able to be imported) - planned
  • Freely assignable shortcuts for the labels (e.g. key 1, 2 or 3) see here emclient.sleekplan.app/feedback/190596 - planned

Thanks and regards

Responses from Postbox are already there
Freely assignable shortcuts even for tags (labels) will be added soon

@Michal_Burger Import of “responses” ? I don’t find this option, or does this only work the first time at setup?

You mean Import from your Postbox database? Now I see. We’ve added predefined Postbox responses, but not import of these from your previous Postbox database.

We’ll add that kind of import as well.

I made the switch from Outlook to eM Client on a Mac in my office a few weeks ago and I’ll soon use it to switch from Postbox on my laptop, which has been my most used Mac. I’m holding off making that jump until 10.2 is ready, knowing it is bringing some more of Postbox’s features. Out of curiosity, is there a feel for when 10.2 will move from the beta version to being ready for release?

It will take approximately 2 more weeks for the official release. We are now fixing bugs and completing localizations.

Thank you, Michal. That’s useful to know and sounds promising!

When it comes time to make the jump, would you recommend simply installing eM Client as usual and then importing Postbox data afterwards, or following some form of initial setup that uses my Postbox settings?

One reason I ask is because Postbox seemed to not have some of the features automatically (e.g. local address book searches using the Outlook server), which eM Client does, so I wondered if I’d need to tinker afterwards if eM Client didn’t do its own setup.

I would go through the initial wizard and migration from Postbox once the new version is released.
We import the full accounts, so the featyres you are talking about should be present even when account is migrated from Postbox.

Thank you again, Michal. That will make life easier if I can use the import feature from the start and don’t have to worry about eM Client omitting (existing) features because it dragged through Postbox’s settings.

One other question while I think about it… I’m noticing some threads where people mention database corruption, needing to restore, and so on. I’ve been testing eM Client on a desktop and it’s been fine to leave it running, including when the desktop goes to screensaver or dims the screen. My laptop (where I make the jump from Postbox once 10.2 is out), however, is a different scenario and will of course sometimes be put to sleep/go into low power mode. Is there any risk to the database integrity if eM Client is left running and the laptop is often put to sleep and woken up? Should I quit eM Client every time before sleep or is there no risk?

Until it is closed correctly (sleep, restart or manual close) there is no reason to be worried. The only malicious scenarios may include sudden shutdown (because of software or hardware) and even in that case most of the time eM Client is able to repair its database (not as Outlook).
