Exchange Account Authentication failed

The first time I tried to add the Hotmail account, I didn’t realize it was an exchange account.  Is it possible that there is some residue in some file from the first attempt that is causing the problem?

Yes.  Delete the account and start afresh

Thanks, for the help, past my bed time.  Tomorrow is another day. l

Maybe Microsoft cannot apply the fix for all accounts at once.
Just as they didn’t apply the Outlook.com change to Outlook Mail simultaneously to all accounts.

The same occured changing from  DeltaSync protocol to  Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) synchronization protocol.

2 of my Hotmail accounts did change immediatly to Exchange , but the third one is still working under  DeltaSync. So I’m waiting for it’s turn to be changed.

Patience for a couple of days, it could be fixed then…

Spot on
Their latest post indicates that 75% of the servers have been fixed with the BCC bug so, it may take a few more days.

I have reinstalled it on my desktop and tried again.  Same results.
I installed it on my laptop and I get the same results, “The server was found, but authentication failed. Check email address and password”
I use 2-stage verification if that makes a difference
HELP

I am also having this issue.  My 2 outlook accounts were on deltasync till about a month ago when they switched to exchange and I deleted them and re-added them with no issues.  Now suddenly 2 days ago, one of those accounts has stopped syncing with outlook completely and I get the same authentication error as above.  I have no issues syncing my email via native ipad app, android outlook app, or via outlook.com.  I deleted the account and try to re-add it but now I get error " there was a problem finding the exchange server, you can enter the server address manually" i’ve tried a few different server addresses and none work.

I have two Hotmail accounts, both Outlook Mail type.  Yesterday one of the two stopped working.  I deleted it and tried to re-install it.  It could not find the server during the re-install process and I entered the server manually but this did not help.  I also copied the server details from the other Hotmail account that is working but did not help either.  I can only assume that this is a Microsoft problem.  I am going to try accessing the account using Thunderbird out of interest.

I have just tried Thunderbird and this does not work either - as expected.  Looking on the Thunderbird forum shows that others are having exactly the same problem with some Hotmail accounts working and others not - almost certainly a Microsoft problem.

Thanks for chiming in and letting us know your results.  This is helpful and at least it seems to be a microsoft, not em client, problem.  I’m not surprised considering how they have botched up my email multiple times in the past.  I guess we just have to wait for them to fix it.  Hopefully they do because I see the twitter feed for outlook has been lit up for days now and they act like users are doing something wrong.

Just to update everybody, today (29 Nov) my missing Hotmail account came back to life.  I do wish Microsoft would stop messing about with Hotmail.  If it wasn’t such a nuisance I would move my Hotmail accounts elsewhere.
