"Error connecting. Click to try again".

I receive regular notifications indicating as follows, “Error connecting. Try again later” for two of my accounts recently added to eM Client through IMAP. Besides the notification, they seem to be working appropriately, at least from the user perspective.

Therefore, I would kindly request either (a) instructions to remove these annoying non-relevant notifications popping up continously on the left side of the screen next to the name of the accounts, or (b) further information about which is the problem with a higher degree of detail or how can I fix it, since diagnostics does not show any, and I’ve already tried all the possible combinations of on/off boxes and alternative settings for the accounts without any change (except for real malfunctioning), checked also the log without finding anything useful or comprehensible.

Regards.

Same here. It happens for all 5 of my IMAP accounts. Started after a recent move of mine that came with a downgrade from gigabit internet to a measily 60mbit, so perhaps it has something to do with expected throughput or latency?

Anyway, it’s causing some messages not to display in the Unread folder, because it thinks it’s not connected to the server. So then I have to click the f’ing red error box, then reopen the mail and lo and behold, suddenly the mail loads. How about you figure that out for yourself em Client…

Send us your logs please: go to menu Tools->Settings->Advanced->Logging and check “IMAP” under the problematic account. Then restart eM Client, try to simulate the issue and send us (with reference to this topic) the logs using the same logging settings window. Thank you.

Mine does this until I delete and then recreate the accounts whilst Windows Mail, Outlook and Thunderbird running alongside connect and sync fine. The IMAP accounts work fine for a day or so then refuse to connect. Usually the Inbox emptys on each account but the other folders maintain there offline content.
I get these errors in the log even with the firewall turned off.
Not happy as I paid a fortune for this program and it seems lots of other people have this issue also. Sad with it being the only IMAP CALDAV CARDDAV solution for Windows (Android seems to have no problem)

Hello,

please send me IMAP log, tools - settings - advanced - mark off IMAP under your account, restart client, try to synchronize and then send me them on [email protected], together with this topic’s address: https://discourse.emclient.com/emclient/to…

We have this issues as well and our server is on our local subnet. Constant warnings and errors related to connecting.

I haven’t troubleshot enough to determine if it’s the mail server or the clients… but our iOS devices, outlook (2003-2013), and Evolution (Linux) do not complain about connection issues. I know that iOS essentially just keeps the connection open constantly. I can’t speak for the others.

We have a Mac Lion Server running the latest patch level.

eMClient is an excellent product with the exception of having this problem occur all the time. I have followed the advice given such as deleting the account and re-installing. The problem returns. In fact there is no way to get around it since one cannot create a gmail account with pop3 as it is defaulting to imap. Now I have Postbox installed and there is no problem with that product. However, eMclient has a good address book and it syncs with gmail calendar easily. I would purchase the product if it were not for the problem with its handling of GMAIL. I can send logs.

Hello,

you can set Gmail over POP3 but it has to be done manually - Tools - Accounts - new account - Mail - other

I, too, am having a similar issue. I followed the instructions provided above, and sent over both sets of logs (before and after restart). Please let me know if you didn’t receive them.

Hello,

I have your email with logs and I have sent it to devs, it can some time before it will be answered but dont worry I will give you answer.

John Gallis: We are all having the same problem. My logs look exactly the same as posted by Philip Dalston. since you haven’t provided an answer to how to solve this problem on the forum, I am seriously considering switching over to Thunderbird (especially since they now support multiple identities which is why I came to EM Client in the 1st place). How about posting a solution instead of asking each of us to send you the same logs?

Hello,

because logs from different users usually contains different error/exception/anything else related messages.

as for that solution, there is still none known. I always post solution to the forum when there is any known. So don’t worry I will post it here as soon as possible after finding out core of problems.

Same problem here. I tried to set up my sbcglobal.net account as a POP. Is there a way to manually set the ports? how do I specify SSL? The POP works but smtp does not. I need to set ports to 995 and 465.

I have continued to work on this problem and matters just get worse. I liked the product because it seemed to work well with syncing calendars and contacts between my desktop and mobile device. I decided to switch from IMAP to POP3 for my gmail account to see if that fixed the problem. Promptly ran into the 2 only accounts allowed restriction, so deleted the old gmail account and re-created it using the pop3 settings. Of course the ones suggested by emClient do not actually work and one has to go through that rather cumbersome diagnostic and even then the test message was never seen. Once I tinkered with the settings I got it to work. However, now I have lost my GMAIL calendar setting. When I tried to add that in I came across the 2 account restriction again. Quite frankly speaking I am fed up with this product, which I had thought to be quite excellent and had been prepared to pay for it. But before I pay I need some assurance that all my problems will be solved. By the way Postbox works flawlessly with none of the Failed to connect messages when using Gmail under IMAP. Postbox is a subset of the Thunderbird product and its only real flaws are that the calendar and contacts are not native to the product.

Hello,

go to Tools - Accounts - your account - SMTP tab, there you will find “Port:” box where you can change your port settings.

port 465 needs “use SSL/TLs on special port (legacy)”, port 995 should be available with “use SSL/TLS if avilable”.

Dear Fellows,

I just discovered EM Client a couple days ago was immediately seduced by the product. It is strong and can handles my 150000 emails very well, it is fast and easy and have the unified mailbox.

I have tried, inky, windows mail 8, outlook 2013, postbox, opera mail and thunderbird, they are not suitable for me.

After having successfully connected all my imaps accounts, I started to receive errors logs, it is extremely annoying as everything seems to work perfectly. I can send and receive my emails.

Have you found a solution yet ? I believe this is a major issue and I would be very happy to purchased a license if this is all fixed.

Thanks for your help,

Bao

Hello,

If everything works okay for you then you can turn off error messages in Tools - Settings - General - General - Operations window, cancel check at “show windows when an error occurs”

I still get this red triangle next to the email address in the left side panel, and emclient seems to re-download the entire history of emails every time instead of just updating what’s new.

could you please tell me what email service provider and what protocol for email receiving do you use? And go to Tools - About and write me your exact version too.

Jan

I still have this issue months and unhelpful updates later. Curiously it’s only the “inbox” that is unavaliable, the “sent” and other folders are still there and syncing fine. Support has been less than helpful despite having paid for this software so I currently have to use 2 mail clients and cut and paste addresses between the Contact list here and my email in Windows Live Mail.
I must admit I find it amazing that in 2013 an email client still has bugs !
