eM-Client crashes frequently

The eM-Client - MacOS version, 10.1.4828 (9843340) - has been crashing regularly for over a week now.
The crashes occur without any interaction on my part. The eM-Client is started, I am working in other programmes such as Word, Excel, Safari etc. Then suddenly a pop-up window appears saying that the eM client has crashed and needs to be restarted.
The crashes were already there before the last two updates this week. At the very beginning they were also related to a certificate error from ‘outlook.com’. In the meantime, the eM-Client crashes randomly.

See also my earlier posts:

The certificate outlook.com is not trusted.

Could possibly be eM Client is crashing due the eg: the Outlook certificates are expired or out of date and might need to be updated.

If you have already tried updating the certificate and still the same problem, I would next try with a new eM Client database and see if that fixes it.

To create a new database to test, close eM Client and the go to the following hidden database eM Client folder and rename it to eg: eM Client-Old.
Then reopen eM Client and setup as new and see if you still get the same problem or if it fixes it.

Many thanks for your quick reply.

Personally, I’m not using outlook.com; I’m not aware of certificates from outlook.com.

In other email-clients there’re tools to repair the database. I assume eM-Client has its own repair tool for its database, isn’t it? Whenever eM-Client crashes, eM-Client ist starting a repair of the database. This should do it…

And creating a fresh database as you described would not be enough, because the amount of emails add up to 10 plus GByte in local folders.

I’m questening myself to go to another email-client. Not more workload than to try to fix the issues with eM-Client.

Ok then there must be another similar digital certificate error as your error screenshots refer to something along those lines being there is Outlook mentioned in the certificate errors.

You might then possibly have a local certificate installed that might be causing it. You can check via “Menu / Preferences / Signing and Encryption / Certificates and Keys”.

In other email-clients there’re tools to repair the database.

You can manually run the repair via the following method on Mac.

(To repair eM Client database manually for Mac)

Close eM Client and then “open the Terminal app via either Launchpad or Utilities” on the Mac. Then Paste and run the following command.

/Applications/eM\ Client.app/Contents/MacOS/eM\ Client /dbrepair

Then reopen eM Client and see if that helps.

In eM Client V10, you can go to “Menu / Data Files” and create a eg:- data file (.emdf) outside of eM Client which by default normally goes in your “Documents / eM Client” folder, but you can create it anywhere you like, where once created it will appear “below your mail accounts”.

You can then create a folder on that data file called eg: Local Folder Mail and then move / drag those 10GB plus messages under your current Local folders to that data file same Local folders. Then once they are your messages are showing in the data file, “then unmount that data file”.

You can then test with a new mail database as I mentioned previously. Then after resetting up your accounts etc, “Re-mount that .emdf data file” and then drag / move those Local folder messages back to where they were, or leave the messages permanently in the data file mounted in eM Client as some users choose to do.

Note:- If you do move Local files to a Data Folder and / or Test with a new Database, “make a manual backup of eM Client first” just incase you need to restore for any reason. You can manually backup via “Menu / Backup”. You can see when the backup is complete in Show Operations via clicking the dropdown on the right of Refresh.

Apart from that someone else on this free community forum might be able to further assist you.

Lastly if you have a current paid Pro or Personal eM Client version, you can go to the following eM Client VIP support page and login at the top left and lodge a support ticket and an assigned engineer will assist you.

MANY THANKS for your efforts to help me!

About two years ago, I switched from Outlook for MacOS to the eM client. I am generally satisfied. With one exception:

I could not send serial e-mails with individualised content depending on the recipient. I trusted the advertising messages that the eM client was MAPI-capable. This statement was gradually withdrawn; the eM client only masters ‘simple MAPI’, and only in the version for Windows (allegedly; even for Windows I could not verify this)…

This missing feature - serial e-mails with individualised content depending on the recipient - severely limited me in my daily work. However, going back from eM Client to Outlook was only possible by purchasing third-party software: eM Client can only export to *.eml, while Outlook for MacOS can only import items in an OLM file.

To cut a long story short: Instead of investing a lot of time in further repair attempts of my eM-Client installation with an uncertain outcome, I bought the third-party software and successfully switched back to Outlook for MacOS… So far, so good… I left the eM-Client installation as it is for the time being…

Once again: THANK YOU very much for your efforts, not a matter of course!
