Hi all, I just upgraded to v11 and it appears that eM Client is downloading external content despite the block options selected in the client’s settings. Attached is a screenshot showing the block settings and Little Snitch showing that eM Client is trying to make a request.
Is this a bug in the application or something I’m doing wrong?
Just to assure you, I’ve discussed this behavior with our devs and they’ve checked every part of eM Client that handles a message when it arrives: notifications, rules, search indexing, classification and avatar lookup. None of them should load remote content from the message body while blocking is enabled.
To figure out what could possibly be making these requests, we’d appreciate these details.
What kind of events you’re seeing. Are these DNS lookups only, or actual connections (TCP/HTTPS)? A screenshot of the Little Snitch entry, or its connection details, would be ideal.
Which process the traffic belongs to. Does Little Snitch attribute it directly to eM Client, or to a helper or system process acting on its behalf?
A sample message. Could you save one of the messages that triggers it (for example the Stripe or Mailchimp one) as an .eml file and send it to us privately? Select the message and choose right/click (or File) > Save As. Then we can reproduce it here under a network monitor.
Security software. Do you have any antivirus or security software that scans incoming email or checks links (for example email protection or web shield features)? Those tools often resolve links found in messages in the background, and the traffic can look like it comes from the email client.
Send all the information and example message to [email protected] with a link to this forum thread in the body, please.
Once we have this, we should be able to tell whether the requests actually come from eM Client itself or from something else on the system. If it turns out to be eM Client, we’ll treat it as a privacy bug and fix it.
Hi Olivia, connecting the Little Snitch alert to a particular email is proving challenging. I will send you what I have using the address you provided above. Thanks!
