Anyone know why the mail_data.dat file in AppData\Roaming\eMClient doesn’t reduce in size when you delete messages from the In, Sent and Deleted boxes? I thought I could free up hard drive space by deleting old messages (about 1.2GB worth), but there is no effect on the mail_data.dat file – it remains at 2.09GB which is the size it was before deleting 5,103 messages.

Hello Virginia,
deleted items are not immediately removed from the database as the database table is being used by other parts of the application, however eM Client should run an automatic database compression occasionally to reduce the size of the database by clearing the database tables from additional data that is no longer being used.

You should be able to speed up the process by running this utility, http://www.emclient.com/tools/dbrepairrebuildall.exe

Hope this helps,
