We use EmClient with Gmail (Google Workspace or whatever it’s called today).
I’ve created a Distribution List which includes the work emails for two employees (along with 3 other employees).
Without fail, EmClient is adding in both the home email addresses of these two employees into this Distribution List. I’m not asking it to do this, I don’t want it to do this. I edit the Distribution List and remove the home email addresses that are listed, save & close, and without fail the list instantly updates and includes the two home email addresses into a work related distribution list.
I’ve checked the Distribution List in Google and the Distribution List ONLY has the email addresses I’ve manually added (all of which are work emails). It’s only in EmClient that these personal addresses appear, and which get sent emails to when I use this Distribution List.
I’ve removed both employees as Contacts. I’ve re-added them as Employee (Home) and Employee (Work) and the Distribution List is still, without fail, somehow finding their home email addresses and adding them in.
I note both Employees are in my Google “Directory” with their home emails listed. And I assume EmClient is trying to be clever and pulling it from there?
My employees are tired of getting work related emails sent to their home email accounts.
tl;dr: How do I get a Distribution List that I created to ONLY email the email addresses that I have manually chosen to add to it and not to try and get clever and add in addresses that I never asked it to add?
That definitely sounds like a misconfiguration in your directory or email system. Typically, work-related distribution lists should be restricted to company-managed accounts for security and compliance reasons. If personal (home) email addresses are being auto-added, it might be due to:
- Directory sync issues – Some systems like Azure AD or Google Workspace might pull secondary/personal emails if not properly filtered.
- HR or onboarding automation tools – These can sometimes auto-populate mailing lists based on employee records that include personal contact info.
- Incorrect mail flow rules – It’s worth checking whether any transport or alias rules are misconfigured.
It’s a good idea to audit the DL membership settings and consult with IT or whoever manages your email infrastructure. Ensuring only authorized work emails are included is key to maintaining both privacy and data security.

Yeah, we definitely think it’s a Google Workspace thing. We can create the Distribution List in EMClient and it’s ok initially… but give it 5 minutes and it’ll update, and include the home email addresses. Seems to be because those people have emails in their Google Directory Profile.
We have no idea how to stop Google pulling that info from there and including it. But if you log into Gmail and look at the Distribution List, it only shows those email addresses that were added manually.
Definitely believe it’s some kind of sync issue but no idea how to “unsync” it.

Suggest then if you have a current active paid Pro or Personal version to login to the VIP support page and and lodge a support ticket.
After trying all sorts of options, it appears to be Disable Contact Sharing in Google Directory that’s finally resolved it. Turns out it was even updating contact names so we’d end up with phones that had “Name of Dist List” as their contact name in a work phone, even though they were in contacts on that phone under their own name.
