I had been using Surfshark with Emclient V9 which would not send outgoing messages while connected to VPN. Followed all Surfsharke’s advice on making it work but it never did. Both Thunderbird and Outlook worked fine with VPN engaged. Just received an email from EMclient asking me to upgrade to V10 but they do not appear to offer a free trial so would need to know whether this problem has been fixed in the latest upgrade?

Unfortunately VPNs tend to block alot of mail client including eM Client and upgrading to V10 won’t change that.
If your VPN support cannot help you to get the VPN working with eM Client then you will need to disable it when using eM Client.
There is alot of new features in V10 which I think are worth upgrading too. Also new personal License pricing options for up to 3 devices you can choose as well either as a one off or subscription.
Note:- If you do upgrade, backup eM Client first via “Menu / Backup” incase you have any issues. You can see when the backup is complete in Show Operations via the dropdown on the right of Refresh at the top left.
I don’t recommended using VPNs with an email client since the VPN IP address could be on a black list due to abuse, which in turn could cause issues (such as login issues, something I experienced first hand). What I would suggest is using split-vpn to exclude the email client from going through the VPN if you have a system wide VPN running. Since you said you use SurfShark, more information is here: VPN split tunneling: all you need to know - Surfshark

We have been using Surfshark since May 2019. We use it all the time from our 40+ sites connecting to multiple different locations worldwide and have never experienced any issues, perhaps because we have our own mail & SMTP server for IMAP & POP3
¡Buena suerte!

Hello,
I had the same problems as you stated, using emClient 10 (free) and Surfshark. Without Surfshark, there is no problem, with Surfshark enabled, sending fails. All are in basic installation settings, and no changes were made.
It seems that the TLS/SSL negotiation on port 587 is timing out because of Surfshark, as the response protocol for TLS is cut and therefore a connection/negotiation cannot be established.
The solution for me was to change emClient’s automatically applied settings in the ‘accounts’ setting, using SSL port only (not TLS). Also, port settings need to go to ‘legacy’. This is no cut in security as 465 and direct SSL protocol is preferred setting over START TLS on 587 anyway. Mails are being properly sent with or without a VPN connection.
emClient’s naming of the security policies is a bit strange, but it is what it is…
Hope it helps you.
