This is common with our local ISPs, which do not use SSL on the SMTP servers; and eM Client enables SSL by default. Go to Tools, select your account, select the SMTP tab and change Security Policy to “Don’t use secure connection”
NOTE: YMMV for Roadrunner. Do not do this for the Gmail account.
