why are attachments not simply saved to a (user defined) folder on disk?
why are attachments saved to some placeholder.file ??
Surely this simplifies the code required to run eClient?

You do that “the first time you save to a folder”. Once you save files to a folder location, eM Client will then remember that folder location for the next time.
