Very very slow mobile app

I am using emclient on my mobile and tablet. Both Android. The app is super slow in loading and scroling through emails. I have reverted back to Edison mail on my mobile but have kept emclient on my tablet in the hope that this will be fixed.

First check that you have the latest eM Client Droid mobile V10.0.2643 as could be you need an update.

If you already have the latest eM Client Droid app, then suggest to go into your Droid “OS / Apps / eM Client / Storage” section and try “clearing the cache” and see if that fixes it.

If still the same issue, then try “clearing the app data” as well. Clearing the app data though means you will then have to re-setup the app again using the eM Client desktop “Export to QR Code via the menu”, where you then “reopen the mobile app, and skip the wizard setup” and choose the “Import via QR code option”. Or skip the mobile wizard and press “Menu / Settings / Import Export / Import via QR code”. Or if you don’t have eM Client for desktop, then re-setup via the mob wizard.

Next if clearing the data and resetting up the app still has the same problem, then “clear the app cache and data again” and "uninstall the app and reinstall the app from the Playstore, and reset-up again.

Apart from that if you haven’t already, “try completely powering off your mobile and back on” , incase its some resident program loading in the background in the mobile OS causing it.

Then if still the same issue “and no other apps are experiencing the same slow issue”, then wait for the next mobile update and see if that fixes it. If then still the same issue then suggest to email [email protected] who can advise you. You might then need to send in diag logs etc.

Lastly “if some other apps are also experiencing the same slow issue” then see if you have any new mobile firmware via your phone OS settings as that might need updating.

I’ve had a similar experience with eM Client on my Android devices. The scrolling between messages is unreliable, and the user interface is unbearably slow. Additionally, the initial synchronization of entire accounts is tedious because the app often goes offline unexpectedly. It’s unfortunate because I really love the desktop version of eM Client, and I’m disappointed with how it has been implemented on Android.

It’s been about two months without any updates or fixes, which is quite frustrating. For now, I strongly advise against installing this version and believe it should still be considered in beta status.

I hope they address these issues soon, as the potential is there, but the execution on Android needs significant improvement. The reviews in the Google Play Store show that many users have had the same experience.

I disagree and “personally recommend installing the app” on Android and iOS as in my opinion (even with only email atm), it’s way better than other mail clients I’ve used “due to the features”.

I and my bro personally never experienced those same slow reading / scrolling issues in this thread with our own Samsung S22 Ultra and OS14 with UI 6.1 & iPhone 13 Pro Max & iPad M1 with OS17.6.1

All apps “even when released are still Beta versions” (just don’t show Beta anymore) and still get updated over time, as there is always ongoing fixes and updates. That process never stops,

The same with companies such as Google with Gmail app, Microsoft with Outlook mail app, & Apple with the Mail app etc. They are also constantly updating the release versions.

So “try the suggested fixes as I posted above in this thread”, and also the next update when released. As you said it’s now been approx 2 months since the last update so shouldn’t be far away now.

Then as I advised @keyserd ,If then still the same issue, then suggest to email [email protected] who can advise you. You might then need to send in diag logs etc

Thank you for your answer and I tried exactly the method you described, but it doesn’t work for me. I also contacted the development team and described the problems exactly. However, the app is extremely slow on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus. And I’m not the only one with the problems, as you can see from the reviews on the Google Play Store. In terms of performance, eM Client is extremely bad compared to other mail apps and I think that’s a real shame because the range of functions is gigantic. I hope that the problems will be resolved soon.

Thats very strange that your newer Samsung S24 Plus mobile is slow using eM Client 10.0.2643 compared to my S22 Ultra with the same OS 14 & UI 6.1. The CPU speed is quicker in the S24 and only slightly slower in the GPU than the S22 Ultra.

So thats strange why you are getting slow scrolling between messages and using the interface is unbearably slow compared to other mail clients as you say. I don’t get any of those issues.

The only thing i can think of is eg: Your accounts you have added in “are possibly not all fully cached yet” so the mailer could be “still trying to sync / read messages while you are using the gui” which then could be slow “depending on how large your mailboxes are and the content in the messages” etc.

So when you are using the eM Client app, go to the Menu / Settings and press Show Operations to see if anything is still synching in the app, as that could explain why its slow.

I also contacted the development team and described the problems exactly.

What did support say ?

I am using V 10.0.2643 on Galaxy A53 5G, Android 14 UI 6.1.
I cannot say that it is slow in objective terms. What I can say is that it is much, much slower sychronising my 4 email accounts (gmail, 2 outlook, IMAP) than either the Outlook app or Google Mail app.
I have been testing emClient android app since the first beta and open it at least once every day to see if there is any improvement. There have been losts of improvements in the various beta versions and I would really like it to be my standard mail client, esp. since I also have the pro version for my windows PC.
But in my often frantic usage I simply cannot wait for an email app to synchronise, when there are alternatives that do it instantaniously on my 2 year old, middle class smartphone.
Yes, I also provided this feedback to the development team, who thanked me for my input.
I am not giving up hope that there will be significant improvements in the future.

@pefunk

I can say is that it is much, much slower sychronising my 4 email accounts (gmail, 2 outlook, IMAP) than either the Outlook app or Google Mail app.

The synchronising speed “depends on how many mail account folders or labels you have”, and “if your account messages are already fully cached”

I personally have hundreds of mail folders and labels in each account, which for my 3 IMAP accounts (Gmail, Outlook & Yahoo) “that are already fully cached messages” and takes around One minute 18 secs to check for any changes.

However “that doesn’t affect the incoming mail speed or outgoing mail speed” of the IMAP Accounts where new mail arrives and sends within a few seconds or so after opening the app, and “doesn’t affect the speed of using the GUI” which is really fast for me personally and no slowness at all.

So once your account messages are full cached “then ignore the synchroning line going across”. That is designed to run without affecting you.

Now if the synchronising line goes across the top of the app goes for more than eg: a couple of minutes with 4 IMAP accounts, then that usually means “either your IMAP mail account folders / labels are not fully cached in the app yet”, which can be the case if it’s a new account app setup.

Or “if the app is already fully cached” and the sync line at the top is taking longer than eg: 2 minutes, “you must then have alot more mail account folders or labels than I do to check in your IMAP accounts on startup” with your 4 accounts.

You can check what is synching, via going to “Menu / Settings / Show Operations”.

This is my experience also - 4 email accounts, Gmail, 2 x IMAP, and Exchange. I’ll live with it because I’m really just waiting on the addition of Calendar and Contacts. I also have 2 x Pro Licenses (Desktop and Laptop) and love the Client. There is no doubt, that syncing emails in the mobile app currently takes longer than many other mail apps - I’m ready to wait it out whilst they get it right!

Well, there have been a few updates for the iOS app in the past week, but it’s still very slow. I get notifications of new emails, and the Badge count of unread emails in the inbox does seem to work now, but it takes forever for the new emails to be downloaded even though I have background app refresh enabled.

Please send us IMAP logs to [email protected] then. Based on our testing and feedback of the release, sync and execution of the app should be now lightning fast, so there must be something specific with your account or device.
