updates today 10/29/2016 lost all my wife's emails.

Turned on wife’s computer and when opening emclient, it popup with new updates.  So I let it download and install.  When it started, there was only the welcome email and no emails nor contacts.  I did a restore and did the latest one.  It restored then got an error message about something missing.  I’m now in the process of restoring my computer back to before this happened.

Same here - I’ve lost all my local folders and their contents!

Same here… spending the only 2 or 3 hours I have free this weekend debugging.  Ended up restoring to old version (fortunately I had a sys backup from this morning)  what a pain.  Its crap like this that usually has me looking for new software to use.    Tried importing from v6 and it just added two more accounts and then complained I was using more than 2.  Still could not see my emails.  Then it complained that I did not have imap turned on in my accounts but I do.   It seems they should just be able to import all your old account information from v6.  what a pain.

Hello all of you. This has been happening to others. And we have explained what is going on. I try to explain again.

First off, system restore does Not restore any data, if you see your emails after a system restore, it’s because you are restoring a previous copy of em client program directory. And in doing so, your are restoring the settings as they were when the restoration file was created.

Urge bug as I understand it is the new update loses the setting that points to the location of your email (data) directory. The default location of the data dir is %users%\curent user\appdata\em client. Where current user is the windows log in id. Use window explorer to browse and find your data there.

In em client -> settings -> storage there is a path and file name pointer that points to where emclinet expects to see its data. If it can’t find its data during update (reinstall) it will create new empty database for you.

So after this update, you need to first see for yourself that your data is still there using file explorer, and then go into em client settings storage and make sure the setting is point st the folder where your data is.

I hope this explains it for you. And future updaters. Because this forum is the only support for the free version of em client.

I actually hope that em client people are working on this. Because it will keep happening until they fix and replace the bad update source with the fix.

Hope this helps you all

Best regards, Allan

From my iPhone. Please excuse mistakes.

Hello John, Sandy, Tordog

Were you able to find your emails using file explorer?  And were you able to enter the data folder path into em Client Settings -> Storage setting?   This happened to me last week, and some others just a few days ago.  And we were able to recover our mail and enjoy the update to version 7.0.29743.0.

i hope to help you all get your lost data path issue resolved.  And I have been waiting to hear back on this from you.

Hello,
if you skipped migration of your database during upgrade, try importing the data manually.

Olivia

Hi all, import did not work for me.  It looks like the old version is using

%Users%\current user\AppData\Roaming\eM Client\  This is a little different than what you say the default is though I never recall changing it …

%users%\curent user\appdata\em client. is what you mentioned … Is the fact that it is under the roaming folder causing me issues?

If I have an hour or two to spare I may try updating again and checking to ensure that settings/storage is pointing in the right place but it sure did not find the data during the upgrade and when I tried to import it just kept creating new accounts and then indicating I had too many accounts for the free version.  I tried deleting the extra accounts but I dont recall seeing data under any of them.   My quickest path was to restore the entire folder/old version from a system backup that I had from early that morning.

Hello,
the default is C:\Users%windows user account%\AppData\Roaming\eM Client
Allan is a user just like you, so it’s possible he changed his default path or perhaps accidentally left out one folder

If your accounts have been imported it means the import worked.
The issue must be somewhere else.
What mail accounts do you have setup? What protocol do they use - IMAP/POP/Exchange?
Are there any error messages in Menu>Tools>Operations window?

Regards,
Olivia

Yes,

Sorry Tordog.  My bad.  I did leave out a folder in my path description.  Thanks Olivia.

Tordog, I do hope you find the time.  And you are able to report back with success… It’s occurrence on this forum rules out isolated incident theory.  I also hope that eM Support are able to replicate it, evasive as it is.    Feeling of lost data is downright awful.
