Update today broke EmClient

Got the prompt to update today, rebooted after and the client will not open. Tried to run a repair and that fails as well. I’m going to attempt an uninstall and reinstall, but wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. I’m likely to avoid running this upgrade on my other computer to avoid this mess.

When you say eM Client won’t open, (if you have Windows) do you see the eM Client icon on the taskbar. If you do, try right clicking on it and then choose “Move”. Then use your keyboard arrow keys to bring it back into view, as it could be open but just off the screen view. Then once eM Client is open then close it, and should then open ok.

Now if there is no eM Client icon on the taskbar or dockbar, and rebooting your computer made no difference and “you see no activity on the screen”, then yes try uninstalling eM Client and if you have Windows “don’t delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard. Then reinstall eM Client & see if it then opens.

Then if you still carn’t open eM Client, then next “try a brand new database” by first renaming your current hidden database folder to eg: eM Client-Old, and then opening eM Client which should then bring up the automatic account wizard for you to setup as new. If you have an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud account, all your email, calendars, contacts etc will then come back from the server when eM Client connects.

(Windows hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”

(Mac Hidden hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\Library\Application Support\eM Client”

Alternatively if you have been making regular eM Client backups either automatically via the Settings or manually via the menu, then after renaming the database and re-opening eM Client, when the wizard appears, you can “skip the automatic setup” and then click “Menu / File / Restore” and choose your most recent restore and you should then be backup all working. Any new mail etc since the backup, will also then update automatically when eM Client connects.

It happened to me this morning also. Waiting for a support ticket for a fix. Were you able to get it fixed?

In some cases the upgrade process need restarting computer, often this notice is ignored and eM Client may not start in that case, so I would try restarting your operating system and if it does not help uninstall (keep the data) and clean install should resolve the problem.

I updated to the latest eM Client. It seemed to be OK, but after I shut down it would not reopen.

I finally tracked the problem down to my use of PC Matic Supershield. I added eM Client to my local whitelist, and all now works as it should.

Whatever your virus protector, it might work to disable it temporarily and see if EM Client will open.

I ended up uninstalling it on Friday and haven’t gotten around to reinstalling (on my work PC). I have it installed on my home computer and laptop and it seems fine). I’ve never had this issue before and I’ve had this product for nine years. I will update once I attempt to reinstall.

I did restart and it still didn’t work

I honestly haven’t had time to try reinstalling since I uninstalled. I have it on two other computers. Were you able to get it resolved without having to uninstall and reinstall?

I did do the uninstall and reinstall which “fixed” it. Just had to make sure to NOT delete the data base when going thru the uninstall procedure. It’s been working normally after that.
