Update Chaos!

I have been alerted by a website that I frequently visit to three new eM Client updates that were released in the past week. When I go visit your website, there are/were indeed three new versions to download: 10.4.4124.0, 10.4.4185.0 and today 10.4.4195.0. Oddly, when I click “Check for update” from within the program, no updates are displayed. I hesitantly decided to install 10.4.4195.0. I feel like version 10.4 is not ready for prime time, otherwise you would not have released three downloads within one week. If they all are OK, why does my program not find these updates?

I was wondering the same.

What website are you getting alerted by ?

Oddly, when I click “Check for update” from within the program, no updates are displayed.

The check for update only normally gives you an update “when interim versions have been fully tested” so that’s why you don’t allways see every update.

So if you do want to try the latest updates and originally installed eM Client from the eM Client website, then go to the following release history page. https://www.emclient.com/release-history

Note: If you do update “make a backup first” via “Menu / Backup” incase you need to restore for any reason. Also close eM Client before updating

Version 10.4.4195.0 is now pushed to all users.

I was wondering the same thing since the automatic update didn’t work, so I stupidly downloaded the latest em client from the website and installed it. Everything appears to work ok, but I ran into an issue with email forwarding. It’s broken; you can’t forward emails, even though the recipient’s email address is correct — none of my contacts in my address book forward. If you manually enter an email address in the forwarding section, that doesn’t work either. But if you create a new email and send it to the same recipient, this appears to work?

So what gives? Weird and a little dumb, this apparent bug, not sure how this passed quality control? If you can’t forward in an email client, that’s kinda a key feature you should test for, right?

I hope this is fixed and they run a battery of tests to catch anything that may have slipped through…

The website in question is: Downloads - ComputerBase.

I fully understand holding back on automatic updates, but…
these interim versions are made available on your website. Anyone wanting to download the program would then get a version that has not been released for automatic updating.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but it appears the transition from 10.3. to 10.4 has been anything but smooth. It is very similar to the update from version 9 to 10: simply too many bugs.

I described the update process and reasoning behind that here:

The similar system is used by most of the bigger software vendors.

Version 10.4 has been under heavy testing for 2 months, including a large community of beta testers. We are not able to reproduce the problem you are talking about. Can you post a step by step manual how to reproduce it, video would even be better.
If there is a major problem with email forwarding we would highly probably already know it, so your use case must be somehow specific.

Appears to be reproducible on the official email from Riverside State Tax Collector, just paid property taxes, and wanted to forward the invoice to my wife for safekeeping.

The failure just keeps happening repeatedly when forwarding, but doesn’t when forwarding a few other emails I’ve forwarded today. So it looks like it’s something to do with the format of this specific email from the local government. This is quite a weird problem?

I’ve opened a ticket in VIP and added some screenshots, if support needs to look into this.

Just a quick note for the others: it seems that NaranKPatel’s forwarding problem is a very specific issue caused by some malformed distribution list, definitely not a general issue of 10.4, so you don’t need to be afraid to install the update.

I was just alerted to yet another update today!: 10.4.4209.0 That would be the 4th one in about a week’s time. C’mon, say it ain’t true!

I am getting SMTP connection problems every time I send a mail. Nevertheless, the mails appear to be getting through. Not sure if this has anything to do with my current version. I have not changed my SMTP settings.

We are addressing reported issues as quickly as possible. You can see the fixes made in our release history:

Some of the issues may emerge only when the update is pushed to millions of users. We are doing our best to minimize the risk, but to some degree it is inevitable in such complex product.
