Unable to add work Office 365 accounts

Hello,
I have multiple Office 365 accounts from my clients. I can use all of them in Windows Mail and in Outlook, but I am not able to add some of them to eM Client.

There are two different types of issues:

  • After adding the account the eM Client opens web browser, I can log with my email, then 2FA sends me the verification code. After entering the code the web shows an information, that I need an administrator. When adding the same account to Windows Mail or Outlook this was not required.
  • The other issue is, that from some clients I get an email, but not the full Office 365 access. (To access their systems, Teams, etc. I use Citrix). However, I was able to add the account into Windows Mail and Outlook without any issue, but not in eM Client - the eM Client expects the login in web browser, which for this account is not possible.

Is there any workaround how to add these “special” accounts in eM Client?

Michal

I have the same issue connecting to an O365 Account. While setting up the Account in Thunderbird is working out of the Box (IMAP via Oauth2), eM Client unfortunately seems to not support IMAP via Oauth2 for O365 Accounts. I am getting the same reply from the Web interface asking me to aks my administrator to approve eM Client.

It means your server admin has restricted which applications can connect to their server. You will need to ask then to approve eM Client, then try the account setup again.

Hi Gary,

It means your server admin has restricted which applications can connect to their server. You will need to ask then to approve eM Client, then try the account setup again.

Thanks. They indeed restricted access for applications to use Exchange Services. However, there should be no restrictions for client using IMAP. To set up an IMAP Account oAuth2 is required. I can’t get eM Client to use IMAP and oAuth2. If I set up an Outlook.com account eM Client is trying to use Exchange Services.

Isn’t it possible to setup IMAP only and use oauth2 (see here: POP-, IMAP- und SMTP-Einstellungen für Outlook.com - Microsoft-Support)

I have similar trouble. Admin has approved my request but when I try set up same email, I have to create another request for same app (em client) again. What do not make any sense. Should I wait a day after approving by admin or what? Do you have same advice?

Thank you

The restriction comes from the server, so it seems they haven’t approved eM Client. Once they approve it, you won’t be asked again.

Gary: As I wrote in my previous comment, I have been approved by admin. But it seems that I had to wait a few hours after the approving, now it is working finally
