It would help a lot to have settings for the To/From columns to control whether the grid displays the actual email address instead of the Name (when present). I and many ppl I email use aliases. For myself, the most important use for incoming email is wanting to know at a glance which email alias the sender used to contact me. It would save the trouble of constantly viewing the email header. Thank you, btw, for including Show Header/Source in the context menu.
Hello,
I did some search here and noticed this is the only post related to this topic, so instead of making a new post, I thought to reply to this one.
I have several email accounts, and in the “To” column, I would love to see which of my email addresses the incoming emails are addressed to. Unfortunately, majority of emails simply show my name in the “To” column, which is not very helpful as I still need to open the email to see which of my email addresses were used by the sender.
Is there any way to handle this?
Thanks much for any input
Unfortunately we don’t display the address in the message list.
But there is something that may help. You can create a Rule to tag messages sent to one of the alias addresses, then at a glance you will see which tag the messages have.
So like this:
Then the message list could look like this:
You could even have the text matching the colour of the tag, but hide the tags, so like this:
Or like this in a single line layout:
Some options at least.
Thanks, I’ll play with these options and see how they work out.
Hi Gary,
Quick question regarding your suggested tagging strategy:
Would these be “local tags” or “server-side tags”? In other words, after I set up this tagging method, if I check the same emails through the browser or another program, will I see these tags there too?
Thank you!
It depends on your server if or how tags are synced. So:
-
The tags don’t sync. That means if you tag a message on one device, on the other device it has no tag.
-
The tags on messages do sync. That means if you tag the message on one device, you see the same tag on the message on another device.
-
The tags on messages and the list of tags sync. That means you see the tags on the messages on the other device, and if you go to Menu > Tags, you see the list of server tags for that account as well. So if you create a new tag on one device, even if you don’t use it, you will see it in the list on the other device. That is for server tags only, as the list of Local Tags doesn’t sync.
