I’m coming to em client from PostBox. One really nice thing is em client can handle meeting invitations and display the meeting details. In Postbox all I saw was an invitation to a meeting but with no details (no date, time nor subject), I needed to go to gmail to view the same message to see the details. It was always a pain in PostBox.
I’m not entirely sure, but I even think em client can display the meeting details and enter the meeting or event into my Google calendar without the .ics file. I just received a meeting invitation, it’s in my calendar but the accompanying email does not have an attachment (the .ics file). This is a big improvement for me over PostBox.
Glad to see a fellow Postbox migrant posting some plusses for eM Client. I’ve been looking for a Postbox replacement for 2 years, and eM Client is the only one that I’ve wanted to use as a daily driver (as opposed to forcing myself to use it for a few days to see if I can make it work). So far, I’m frustrated with a lot of things, but I’m still defaulting to opening eM Client instead of Postbox, so I must like it!
I think the fact that it handles threaded conversations similarly to Postbox (even the message-count button looks and behaves similarly) is what’s made it feel comfortable.
I’ll add other features here that I’ve found in em client that I don’t think were in Postbox. Today’s feature is delayed or scheduled sending. It’s an option when sending a message, I can prepare the email for sending at a later time. That’s handy.
This is a great idea for a separate thread too! This topic is going to be (understanably) chock-a-block with concerns and complains, but eM Client is a pretty great app. We migrants should have a place to pat eM Client on the back for what it does well!
I tried (or maybe the moderators can) to change the title of this thread to “Things that em client handles that PostBox couldn’t” But it seems the ability to edit the subject line ends after some time after posting. I’ll start a new discussion with a more descriptive title.
Non-proprietary tagging system is the big plus for me. Postbox was better than most, since you could tag both Outlook and Gmail messages (most apps only let you tag one or the other), but at the cost of using tags that showed up in no other email app – a particular problem, since Postbox has no iPhone app.
Also, seems better able to handle large volumes of stored emails. On Postbox I had to limit it to storing a month or so of emails – otherwise it was just too slow. But that meant emails I hadn’t attended to in some time dropped off the desk, as it were.
I couldn’t find a way to edit the subject line in the original post to mention more handy features found in em client that were lacking in PostBox. While I hope the developers at em client incorporate more and more of features from PostBox, at the same time, em client has features worth mentioning that I wished that Postbox had.
I’ve just discovered a nice eM Client feature: When you’re looking at search results, the search field has a nice colored border. It’s a pretty minor thing, but a great little UI/UX touch that just make the app a little more intuitive.
