I have been trying without success for he last 7 hours (on and off) to get eM client to read my past emails from my IMAP server with no success. I am usually good at figuring these things out, but that’s obviously not going to happen today for me if I don’t ask for help.
So, Help, please!
I am trying to retrieve my emails for my IMAP server to no avail. At first I thought it was a password problem, but that cannot be the case. My directory structure on the left side of eM client is exactly the was it appears on both my Outlook and my Thunderbird. So this tells me that since the “directory” structure on the left was created by eM, then it must have connected successfully with my IMAP server.
The problem is that I am retrieving no past emails (incoming nor sent).
At this point, I do not know enough about eM client to proceed, so I throwing this query out to the forum for those of you who enjoy informing idiots like myself what I am or am not doing to get my emails populated.
Could be your IMAP account setup in eM Client is limited.
Go to “Menu / Accounts” (Pc) or “eM Client / Accounts” (Mac) and click your mail account IMAP tab, and part way down you will see “Sync options” where by default it’s normally set to “All time” unless it’s limited to a lesser time period.
Message sync time period: This setting allows you to synchronize only the newest emails from your server with a custom-set time frame. You can change the time frame here at any time.
The default option is to synchronize messages from All time, which will pose no limit on your messages, all the ones on your server will be synchronized with eM Client. In case you want to keep only the latest in the app, you can choose from Last 1 day, Last 3 days, Last week, Last 2 weeks, Last month, Last 3 months or Last year.
Failing that if your account sync “is already set to All Time”, then suggest to remove and re-add your mail account via the automatic email wizard or manual setup depending on your server.
Lastly if you do remove and readd your mail account, backup first via “Menu / Backup” (Pc) or “File / Backup” (Mac). You can see when the backup is complete in “Show Operations” via the drop-down on the right of Refresh.
Not to say I wasn’t interested in your entire kindly response, but the above snippet really caught my eye.I wasn’t awara of an automatic email wizard. It sounds like just what I need to get started!

automatic email wizard
[/quote] Where do I find this automatic email wizard amongst all these many diverse commands that can be performed by this email client. It really looks like a client that I could really love!
I did EXACTLY as you indicated in the previous email. Now it is “looking” for emails i guess from the the looks of the rotating circle next to my email address. It has been doing this for some time now and I don’t appear to be getting any emails. I’ll wait as long as it takes.
After approximately 10 minutes of the rotating circle spinning around and around, the symbol changed to an orange triangle with an exclamation point in its center. A mouse over says “Connection failed, An attempt to connect to “my email” failed. This could be caused by temporary server unavailability or incorrect settings. Please check the settings or click on the warning symbol to try connecting again”
I am attempting again, since I log in to this account daily to view my online webmail daily to see what has not come in yet on my Outlook (which I despise with a passion). So I am VERY sure that my email address and password are correct.
I selected the orange warning symbol in an attempt to connect. A rotating circle like before appeared. After 5 minutes of the email server circle going around and around, it turned into an orange warning symbol yet again.
There is something obviously wrong and I don’t know what it could be. It can’t be my login credentials since I have those memorized from using my online account almost daily and they both use the same credentials.
I just now used the “Diagnose” selection and it changed my IMAP settings, but said my SMTP settings were OK. I went back to the main screen and tried yet again to connect to no avail. I changed the IMAP settings back to what they are on my Outlook and Thunderbird accounts which both work, but no, eM goes to a warning after just 1 minute.
Here’s a JPG to see what I.m seeing and to clarify it for anyone who is reading/resounding to this thread (I obfuscated my email address for obvious reasons):
I will try that this afternoon. I am having some electrical problems at the house, so I need to concentrate on that for now. Thank you for your advice!
Tried IMAP settings as you suggested and still no success
Go back to Show Operations via the dropdown arrow on the right of Refresh, and then click the “Log tab” and look for any obvious IMAP errors. Then update those in this thread.
