I used the latest update for eM Client just now on my XP. I have a win8.1 machine that want’s me to update but I’m a bit skeptical right yet. On the XP it removed all my tasktray icons. When I went to START>PROPERTIES>TASKBAR>CUSTOMIZE the icons were not there but just folder icons for each program. Beyond that I do not know what else it might have done. I just restored to the day before which brought everything back. I see one answer to a similar situation here said maybe it booted back up on a different profile. I don’t think so, there’s only me (admin) and Guest and I think guest would have more than the time, wi-fi and volumn. I know XP is verboten now but still many government computers are still on XP. I have 3 that won’t die because I take such good care of them. One is 10 years old and shows no sign of not being a performer. So what’s this update doing?
HI Jack, unfortunately Windows XP are an unsupported software that has been discontinued from Microsoft’s support, you can try to update your eM Client to this release, http://www.emclient.com/dist/v6.0.21372/setup.msi, and check if the issue persists, however we’re currently unable to support GUI issues with Windows XP as the software’s support has declined.
Thank you for understanding,
Paul
Thanks for the reply. It might be good to put on the update alert SUITABLE for Vista and later OS or NOT SUITABLE for XP. There are still many XP machines out there. Government offices still use many XP’s and there are several resources that are supporting XP still. Thanks for a great program. ":-Dx (posted once but I don’t see where it took?)
Hi Jack, thank you for your support, the application is still officially compatible with the system and it’s no problem to install, however some system components are outdated and are unable to work with some of the latest features and fixes for eM Client.
Unfortunately this comes hand to hand with the discontinued support.
Thank you for understanding,
Paul
I do understand. My gosh I don’t want to be like someone with Millenium still hollering for support. It’s just that I recently installed it with no problem on the XP’s with no issues in spite of the age of the OS. I was just surprised it had an issue with XP in the first update in the week of initial install. I will install it on my 8.1 and hope for a smooth sail. I do appreciate such a fine program and am quick to express it and your attention to this. Put me in the Happy and Satisfied column please. ":-Dx
