I’m currently using the Thunderbird email program, and it starts within one second. I’d like to take advantage of the Black Friday offer for emClient and am currently testing the software. So far, everything is working well, except that starting the program takes so long, about 4-5 seconds! Is that normal?
Thats quick and normal. Mine is also aprox 4+ secs with 4 large imap accounts.
The loading time apart from the program itself loading, can also vary longer “depending on the size of your mail database”, but if you are getting aprox 4+ secs then nothing wrong with that.

I consider 4-5 seconds to be fast. On my PC, using the latest eM Client version, it is taking about 15 seconds! This is far too slow. Re-organizing the database, re-installing the program, etc. have not helped at all. In contrast, Thunderbird takes just under 3 seconds to open.
I have 679 mails in my inbox.
I really don’t remember eM Client ever being this slow. Any ideas?
I can confirm this; it also takes 4-5 seconds on my PC. I recently bought a new Microsoft Surface Pro 12" laptop, and emClient takes over 10 seconds to start there as well. I won’t be renewing my license at the end of the year; it takes far too long for me personally. Thunderbird takes 2-3 seconds on both computers.
I think this is about the 32 bit Version of emClient on Windows, it starts really slow compared to the macOS version. In my opinion a 64 bit version may fix this.

If your PC takes 4-5 secs to load which is normal, but your Surface Pro laptop takes 10 secs to load, then could be the laptop eg: hard-disk is alot slower, or maybe doesn’t have as fast a cpu, or maybe doesn’t have as much ram, or the gpu is slower, or maybe there is other software loading resident slowing the mail client initially opening.
What are the specs of both computers ?.
Are they running the same OS version?
Are they running the same eM Client version ?
Also are they identical eM Client account setups, tags, etc, or are they different setups ?
I experienced different loading times when Windows 11 Pro is not fully started. Waiting for Windows to start fully reduced the start time for emClient.
@BigR: Where I can find 64bit? It seems only 32Bit on Homepage is available. On my desktop PC I have 64 bit WIN 11 Pro, but emClient is just 32 Bit installed!
@Cyberzorg: My Surface Pro is brandnew, I bought it before Christmas:

The Snapdragon X Plus mobile Arm CPU is not as fast as a real AMD or Intel X86 Desktop CPU, so i suspect the 10 secs initial load time compared to your other PC that loads eM Client in 4-5 secs is probably the CPU due to “it emulating X86 speed is not fast enough”..
There is some Snapdragon X eg: Elite models that can load a bit quicker but from my own tests using them in shops, they are still no where near as fast as a real AMD or Intel X86 Desktop CPU. Maybe in the future once optimised.
Other factors are the eg: SSD drive speed or Ram Speed etc “that might be slower on the Surface Pro compared to your PC desktop” which could also cause eM Client to initially load slower apart from the CPU emulating X86.
Or could be also eg: optionally installed programs running resident in the background on the Surface Pro slowing eM Client initially opening as fast. So all that would need to be checked.

There is no current separate 64Bit separate d/l version for Windows that I’m aware of atm.
eM Client might do that possibly in the future.
There is no speed advantage doing that atm from what I’ve read on the eM Client threads. See @gary post links below
My Surface is fast, every piece of software starts quickly, even photo software, only emClient lags behind. I stand by my opinion, it’s too slow, sorry! If it doesn’t load faster, I won’t be renewing my license!

Then if you still have a current active paid Pro, Personal or Business version, I would then advise to go to the VIP support page and login and lodge a support ticket to have your initial loading speed issue investigated and link this thread.
Support maybe have a eg: specific Native ARM 64Bit version optimised you could try. Unknown.

What version of eM Client are you running?
Also do you have Windows or Mac and what OS version?
Then as your computer specs are fine and reinstalling the program hasn’t made any difference, have you tried creating a new database and setting up new ?
As I see you mentioned you re-organised the database, but don’t know if you tried actually creating a new database from scratch.
If you haven’t tried creating a new database, “close eM Client” and go to the following hidden database folder and rename it to eg: eM Client-Old . Then reopen eM Client and setup new.
(Windows hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”
(Mac Hidden hidden eM Client database folder)
“Users\yourusername\Library\Application Support\eM Client”
Thanks for your tip, but I believe that would force me to start all over from scratch. At the moment, reinstalling everything is not option. Wouldn’t it be better to save all my settings first, and then recreate the database folder? Not sure whether everything would be restored.

Yes you would need to create a test blank new database to see if your current database is the cause of the slow initial loading problem or if it’s something external / outside of eM Client.
If a new database then fixes the slow initial load problem, you can then do a eg: Partial restore from the original database to retrieve any old emails or tags, rules etc if you don’t have all your emails etc in a cloud account.
Have a look at the following blog for how to a partial restore in offline mode part way down. It also explains about renaming your current database etc.
If then creating a new database still doesn’t fix it, then there must be something eg: running resident external to the mail client causing the mail client to initial open slow.
Wouldn’t it be better to save all my settings first,
Yes if you don’t already make automatic backups via the Settings or don’t do regular manual backups, then yes “first make a manual backup of your current database” via “Menu / Backup”.
Note: You can see when the manual backup is complete in the Show Operations via the dropdown on the right of Refresh.
I recently removed an account for my contacts and calenders that was on my mail account server located here in town. At least for the time being, I am using Google calenders and contacts. This seems to have made a big change. It now takes about 4 seconds to open eM Client.
It seems like the choice of server(s) can make a big difference. Do you have any insight into this?
The type of mail server shouldn’t normally make any difference on the initial loading time as the mailer “as far as I know” doesn’t check for mail from any accounts “under after the mail client opens”. If that’s not the case someone will update this thread.
So as eM Client is now loading in approx 4secs which is normal, then sounds like possibly there may have been some eg: corruption in that account you removed that was slowing the mail client opening.
So make a manual backup now that it’s loading normal speed, and then try adding that account back in and see if you still have the same issue.
