I am going on an 8-day trip in November and is there any way to set up eM Client for a short time during that time on my laptop? Desktop is too bulky…

Yes…
1./ Create a backup: Menu ->Backup
2./ Deactivate the license on Desktop: Menu ->Help ->License
3./ Find the .ZIP backup file and move it to your laptop (Usb is easiest)
The default location is …\Documents\eM Client)
On your Laptop:
1./ Install eMC (www.emclient.com/dist/latest/setup.msi)
2./Move the ZIP backup file to: …\Documents\eM Client (create the folder if it is not there)
3./ Install and skip initial setup
4./ Restore from your backup through Menu ->File ->Restore
Reverse this when back from your trip.
