Given that I get a taskbar icon app badge on Thunderbird and on Outlook 2016, and given that my Windows Taskbar settings are all correct for my purpose, what else could cause no icon app badge appearing for em Client?
What I hope to see is the icon appearing whenever there are unread emails in the Inbox.
[I am a new em Client user on 10.0.3125. I previously posted this content to a two year old thread, but I don’t know if that even works, so I post new.]
Replying to my own post:
Is this the correct function description:
Provided that both (1) emClient is minimized, and (2) an email arrives via automatic send-receive, then an envelope appears on the emClient taskbar icon. When emClient is returned to the screen, i.e. no longer minimized, the icon disappears.
Under all other conditions, there is no envelope icon.
Is there an available software manual I have overlooked that would include the answer to the above, and much else?
Just to be clear: You’re talking about the icon near the clock, right?
I’m not the original poster, but I’d like there to be an unread messages count – or at least an indication that there is unread mail – on the taskbar icon.
Previously, a white envelope would show up when there was unread mail. With the latest version, the eM Client icon does not change ever.
This is the icon that I click on to launch eM Client. On the taskbar. One icon to the left of the Start button. Not in the system tray.
I agree, that would be better
I think the way it works at the moment (and as far as I am aware is unchanged in v9 and v10) is that the taskbar icon changes to an envelope whenever new mail is received relative to the last time the eM Client window was opened. Once the eM Client window has been opened, this resets. The envelope icon therefore notifies the user of changes relative to the last time they looked.
If the envelope icon were used to indicate unread mail then if a user opened eM Client, skimmed through the new mail headers to see what had been received but didn’t read all of the emails, the envelope icon would remain until all emails had been read. In this case, the user would not be aware of any new emails arriving since the last time the eM Client was opened.
