is there a way to transfer the spam list from desktop to iphone OR to a second computer.
I am migrating to a different desktop and would be nice to not have to start creating the SPAM list from scratch.

If you are migrating to a new computer, the best option is to use “the built-in backup and restore”.
The new computer will then have exactly the same settings, accounts, rules etc as the old computer.

How to move my eM Client data to a new computer?

The best way to ensure all your data and settings are brought over is through Backup and Restore.
Follow these steps:
In the old device:
1). Create a backup through Menu > Backup (Menu > File > Backup in eM Client 7 and older)
2). Deactivate your license if you are no longer going to use eM Client on this device in Menu > Help > License (not needed for one-seat licenses, but useful for making sure no licensing problems happen)
3). Find the .ZIP backup file and move it to your new device (by default in …\Documents\eM Client)
In your new device:
1). Install eM Client (download it here)
2). Skip initial setup
3). Restore from your backup through Menu > File > Restore
4). Activate your license in Menu > Help > License
If you put the backup file in the new device in the same folder structure as the default (…\Documents\eM Client) the restore will find it right away. Otherwise, you’ll need to specify the path where the backup file can be found (in Menu > Settings > General > Backup).
You can also find these steps in our blog here: New device and eM Client? No problem!
thanks for the feedback, i am migrating from one to another computer so lots of settings have yet to have been visited.
I’m using DuckDuckGo for browser.
problem here is that i don’t want Every folder to be included in the backup

Then once eM Client backup is restored on your new computer, you would normally then “need to delete the folders and/or anything you don’t want on the new computer”, as the backup is designed “as an exact snap shot” and doesn’t have specific selection backup options when it backs up.
However if you only want certain parts of the backup “once completed” and keep the original backup file intact, there is a way to do “a partial restore”. See this eM Client blog link. When you open it “scroll down till you find that section”.
in OUTLOOK (and others) we could separate things like LAST YEARS email and move it to an offline source or commit to DVD, etc. I used to create New PST files and export folders to it such to reduce the total volume of active email. This process provided for both long-range data storage and for email migration of only the desired data. It sounds like you are saying that emclient ALWAYS has to back up everything and there is no way to segment the data from Online to Offline.

You can setup eg: “automatic archiving” within eM Client which moves mail account messages older than a selected threshold or x amount of days to an archive folder stored locally. You can then access them anytime directly within eM Client.
See eM Client Automatic Archiving documentation links below. The second blog link also has an example video of how it works.
Note: If you do setup Automatic Archiving, make sure you backup eM Client regularly as those non active emails are then only locally in eM Client. You can setup either automatic periodic backup via “Menu / Settings / General / Backup” or alt regularly manually backup via “Menu / Backup”.

Alternatively if you prefer non active email “stored outside of eM Client”, you can eg: Create a folder on your desktop or documents etc called eg: Old Acct Mail, and then drag any email and any mail folders directly to Old Acct Mail. That will create all those messages in (.eml files), which can then be opened externally via eM Client or dragged back into eM Client at a later date if you want.
You could then move that Old Acct folder to an Offline Source or Burn that to a DVD etc. I’ve done that before a few times in the past.
Lastly if you have any Outlook .PST files you can also now mount them in eM Client V10 to view and copy any old messages from them if you want.
