Synchronising subfolders takes hours..............

Every time I start up EM Client it starts synchronizing the subfolders. I don’t know what that exactly is but it take a long, long time. This action prevents my new emails from coming in.
Is there a solution to this problem? Otherwise I have to uninstall EM Client and look for a better alternative.
