Is it possible to keep EMclient contacts and Gmail contacts in sync when using POP3, or must one use IMAP?
POP3 doesn’t sync contacts. It is for new Inbox messages only. But you can no longer use POP3 with Gmail anyway. Please see our announcement from March last year.
IMAP syncs all the mail folders, not contacts and calendars, but if you setup the Gmail account using the automatic setup, it will sync all mail folders, contacts and calendars.
OK, thanks.
BTW: I’m using EMC with GMAIL via POP3 just fine. There’s a way to do it. I’m running this way because I want all emails on my hard drive. But I will switch over to IMAP and come up with a way to archive emails locally.

You can setup “Automatic Archiving” in eM Client which moves messages from the server to a local folder in eM Client to then save space on your server. See the eM Client support doc.

“Automatic Archiving”
In this section you can enable /disable automatic archiving of the messages.
Automatic archiving moves message older than selected threshold to archive folder stored locally. This reduces the amount of storage required on the server and at the same time helps you to keep your folders clean.
Thanks!

OK, I’ve switched over to IMAP, but my inbox behaves differently. With POP3 my emails remained in my EMC inbox forever until I archived them. How do I make IMAP/GMAIL do the following?
- When any other device reads gmail using mobile Gmail app, or Windows 10/11 Mail app, leave messages in the inbox.
- When my desktop EMClient reads the Gmail inbox, move all of them to my local device and leave them in the EMC inbox folder until I do something with them, and remove them from the Gmail server inbox. In other words, they go away on the server, but accumulate in my EMC inbox.
Thanks!

Make sure you have enabled IMAP in your Gmail account online.
Open Gmail online.
In the top right, click “Settings” and then click “See all Settings”.
Click the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab.
In the “IMAP access” section, select “Enable IMAP”.
Click Save Changes

This scenario only normally happens by default if you still have a Gmail POP account setup in eM Client which downloads email from the server and then deletes it from the server.
Have you setup your Gmail account using the “automatic email wizard” as @Gary advised ?, which is then a Gmail IMAP setup and shows messages in eM Client Inbox and other folders “the same as what’s showing on the server”.

So you would initially leave you old Gmail POP acct as it is. Then just add your same Gmail account via the “automatic email wizard” which then adds a second same Gmail IMAP acct.
Lastly you would move / drag all your old Gmail POP mail account messages and folders to your new Gmail IMAP acct same folders.
Then once you are confident all your old POP mail messages and folders are in your IMAP acct, you can then delete your old POP mail account.
Note: Before doing anything make a backup of eM Client first via “Menu / Backup” incase you need to restore for any reason. You can see when the backup is complete in “Menu / Operations” via the dropdown next to refresh.
