Suggestion for Easier Access to Manual Offline Mode in eM Client

Hello eM Client Community and Team,

I’m reaching out to suggest an improvement in eM Client 9 regarding the accessibility of the manual offline mode. Currently, switching to offline mode requires navigating through the menu to File and then selecting “Work Offline.” While this method works, it can be quite cumbersome, especially for those who frequently need to switch between online and offline modes.

An enhancement to this could be the introduction of a dedicated keyboard shortcut or a quick-access button in the main toolbar. This would greatly streamline the process, making it more user-friendly and efficient, especially for users who rely heavily on keyboard navigation.

I believe this feature would be a valuable addition to eM Client, enhancing the overall user experience. It would be especially beneficial for those working in environments with intermittent internet access or for those who prefer to manage their online status more actively.

I’m interested to hear if other users have similar needs and would appreciate such a feature. Also, any input or alternative suggestions from the eM Client team would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for considering this suggestion and for continuously working to improve eM Client.

Best regards,
Sebastian

Totally agree. Would be extremely useful for me because my mail doesn’t sync whilst I’m working online, with emClient open! They did look into it for me but never came up with a solution. Ideally I’d like my emails syncing as soon as new mail arrives but I have to go Menu/File/Work Offline … and then click on Work Offline to make it online again and only THEN do my new emails arrive. Very cumbersome when doing regularly so yes, being able to add it to the Toolbar would be great. I hope they listen.

Good idea - can’t send emails from my main account, and also all my Archive emails disappeared - retrieved from backup but need to tidy up. So offline access would be great

Just found this thread. I’m a new Mac EMC user (version 10.4.5326) - still testing / setting preferences etc. I can see that EMC has added a red offline icon - that lets me switch back to online mode - but to get to this I still have to go to Menu > File > Work Offline.

Would be wonderful if EMC could keep this icon but turn it to green when online + red when offline, letting mac users toggle between the 2 modes by clicking this icon.

I’m sure others would find this much easier than having to go to a buried menu option to go offline.

EMC offline icon

Just “click on the red offline text” and it will change back to Online without going to the Menu.

Also to change back to offline mode “you might be able to create a shortcut key combination” to do that.

Go to “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General / Shortcuts”.

Look for “Offline” or “Work Offline” and if they are there you can then set up custom shortcut keys.

@cyberzork - I’ve just looked in “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General / Shortcuts - but unable to see anything for “Offline” or “Work Offline” + there does not seem to be an option to add a shortcut. Also tried to search for “Offline” in settings and nothing showed up.

It was just a suggestion to look and see if there was one there. Maybe in the future then.

You could put a Sleekplan suggestion for a work offline shortcut key for others to vote on.
