Subject field doesn't support standard macOS text-navigation shortcuts (Cmd+Up/Down, Shift+Cmd+Up/Down)

Hi everyone,

I’d like to raise a small but recurring usability issue with the Subject field when composing or replying to emails on macOS.

On macOS, virtually every application (Mail, Safari, Notes, TextEdit, Pages, browsers, etc.) supports the following standard text-navigation shortcuts:

  • Cmd+← / Cmd+→ – jump to the beginning / end of the current line
  • Cmd+↑ / Cmd+↓ – jump to the very beginning / end of the text field
  • Adding Shift to any of the above extends the selection accordingly (e.g. Shift+Cmd+↓ selects from the cursor position to the end of the field)

In eM Client, these shortcuts currently don’t work in the Subject field. As a result, if I want to select, say, the second half of a subject line, I can’t just click into the field and press Shift+Cmd+↓ — I have to select manually with the mouse, or fall back to holding down the arrow key repeatedly.

Since I prefer working with the keyboard rather than the mouse, this makes editing subject lines unnecessarily fiddly, especially compared to how smoothly this works everywhere else on macOS.

Could you please consider adding support for these standard macOS keyboard shortcuts in the Subject field — and ideally consistently across other single-line input fields in the app?

Hello, we can’t reproduce this issue, all these shortcuts work on our Mac devices.
For helping us to diagnose the issue, can you please:

  1. try to create a new blank user profile, if it is happening there as well
  2. check your accessibility options
  3. tell us what macOS and eM Client version and hardware you use (Mac and keyboard)
  4. send us your user defaults (can be retrieved in terminal with this command defaults read > ~/Downloads/defaults.txt and send it to [email protected] for a further analysis

Thank you for all your replies.

It really is strange, and I do apologize for having brought this up again.
It did not work for me – and it did not work from the beginning I was using this otherwise really nice software – so I opened this Topic again, since nothing had happened after my first try.

But now, after you all said it works as expexted, it does so here as well.
I cannot say why or how, only that it does.

So I am happy to be able to use it now in a way I am used to in any other program.
