Several contacts have weird text inserted in their Suffix field (the field where Jr. or Esq. or III normally goes). The junk text always starts “SORT-STRING:” followed by the person’s last name, first name, etc.
Other contacts have “X-ALT-NOTE;FMTTYPE=text/html…” in various other fields.
I sync emClient with two iOS devices, but no other PCs. The text was definitely not there before using emClient. The problem also grows over time: more and more contacts get their field corrupted over time.
Any ideas?

I get the same thing. Mainly when contacts have been added on my iPhone (I think!).
I fixed my problem! That’s the good news.
The bad news is, I’m not sure what fixed it, so I’m not sure I’ll be any help to you.
First, I stopped using eM Client for several weeks and switched to Outlook. That didn’t seem to make a difference.
Then I removed my iCloud account from Outlook so that no email client could access my Contacts.
Then I changed access privileges to my Contacts. Specifically, on all my iDevices I changed Settings > Privacy and Security > Contacts and turned off “Full Access” to any app that had it. In my case there were four apps that needed changing: Google Maps, Instagram, Bank of America, and an anti-spam app called Jolly Roger Telephone.
After all that, the problem seemed to stop. I’ve manually cleaned up my Contacts (very tedious) and no new problems have appeared.
So… which step fixed it? I’m not sure. My hunch is that it was the last step: revoking Full Access to iOS apps that use Contacts. YMMV.
I was using a contacts sync app on iOS. I now believe that was the problem.
