SMTP Server Did Not Like our Greeting - Spectrum Email

It seems like every month or two I have some SMTP port issue with eM Client and Spectrum email. I’m usually able to try different combinations and eventually one works. This time though no matter what combo of port numbers and protocols I try it fails. I ran the “Fix” which seemed to run through all of the combinations and get “Fixing Failed”.
Incoming mail works just fine. It’s only outgoing that fails with “The SMTP server did not like our greeting.” Any ideas if this is an eM Client or Spectrum problem or both?

As far as I know eM Client is not compatible with Charter/Spectrum servers.

BTW, this is the configuration info I’ve received from Spectrum but I still get “The SMTP server did not like our greeting.”

  • Outgoing Server Port: Enter 587.
    • Select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication option.
    • Select This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL).
    • Select TLS (if SSL isn’t available) in the Use the following types of encrypted connections settings.
  • Requires Authentication: Yes

For port 587 set the security policy to Force usage of SSL/TLS. That is the correct combination.

But as I said, the server is not compatible.

Ok, thanks. I’ll find a different email client.
