In version 6 I have discovered the following weird behavior:
When selecting the Contacts pane the Gmail -> Contacts folder structure is shown, with the Categories My Contacts / Friends / Family etc on the lowest level. We know that the My Contacts category must be pre-selected in order to tell Gmail to sync the added contacts between the different mobile devices. Try the following:
When selecting My Contacts by clicking in the tic box and then mouse clicking New to open the panel for adding a new contact - the category is set to None and the new contact will be added to the Other contact folder and hence no sync.
When selecting My Contacts by clicking on the text My Contacts immediately to the right of the tic box and then mouse clicking New to open the panel for adding a new contact - the category is set to My Contacts and we’ll get the sync working.
The visual appearance is identical for the two methods of pre-selecting the category - very frustrating!
Hi, can you try to click on those (I see 4 at my account) folder in lowest position in folder tree one by one and then new contact if it will still have no category when you will create new contact?
Hi John, The point is, if I click inside the little tic box (for any of the 4 folders) a check mark appears, but when I press New contact, the category is set to None. When I click on the folder name itself, a check mark appears in the box, and when I press New contact, the category is set to the checked folder. I discovered it just by incident.
Lars
John, I will sent you an email with a screen copy of the two cases. I suspect I might have lost something in the explanation. If you insist that this is the way it is intended to work, then I give up. Lars
I think the point of the tick-boxes is to display multiple categories at the same time, whereas just clicking on the category NAME next to the tick-box will only display that particular category.
Returning to the original point about selecting default categories, I am about to submit a feature request for this.
