"Sent From" Address Autodetect wrong in update (v.10.4.4195)

Background: Like many users, I have multiple email addresses linked to eM Client. However, I also have it set up so that my work email forwards to my personal email. The work email gets forwarded and then immediately archived on the work account to avoid clutter.

Problem: I recently updated to eM Client 10.4.4195 after receiving the notification; however, this appears to have broken a fundamental use case for me. In eM Client v.10.3, emails sent to my work address would default to being sent from my work email when I went to reply (even though they were technically in my personal email account). Same for personal emails–sent to my personal email, my personal email is selected as the default “sent from” address. This has worked flawlessly as long as I am in the “unified inbox” since I started using eM Client.

However, now when I select “reply,” eM Client always defaults to my personal email address (which is the global default). I can’t seem to revert the behavior back to what I was experiencing before the update, nor can I revert to the older version of eM Client (trying to open v.10.3 produces a database error and instructs you to download the latest version).

Question: Any suggestions or help for fixing the default “sent from” email address to be dynamically updated based on the recipient address would be greatly appreciated!

Same here. Hopefully there will be a workaround or fix soon.

See this thread below from @Olivia_Rust which may explain the problem you are having.

@cyberzork Thank you for linking this related issue. I do believe it is the same problem I mentioned, but the proposed solution (" in All Inboxes, the behavior should remain the same as before"), does not appear to be true. The behavior is the same whether I am in the unified “Inboxes”, “All Inboxes”, or each dedicated linked inbox–EM Client will always select the email address in the “To:” field, rather than where the email originated from.

I’ll try to reach out to support like the linked comment suggests and report back here with a response or solution. Otherwise, I’d appreciate any other suggestions to fix the issue.

Lastly, I’ll state that aside from this issue, I have had no issues with the recent update(s). I am particularly impressed by the better syncing speeds. I just want the old autodetect email to work like previous versions!

The proposed solution does not work for me either. All Inboxes defaults to a specific account (main account?) no matter what the “To:” address is. I have to make sure I remember to 1) change the From address every time I send an email and 2) delete my “From” address from the To: field.

#2 is because in addition to not using the correct From address it takes what is supposed to be the From address and puts it in the To field for some reason. Maybe that info will help with troubleshooting? I will reach out to support as well to see what they say;

@drpineapple

The behavior is the same whether I am in the unified “Inboxes”, “All Inboxes”, or each dedicated linked inbox–EM Client will always select the email address in the “To:” field, rather than where the email originated from.

Replying to senders emails “using All Inboxes” and the latest V10.4.4209 “does reply correctly to the email originator for me personally” in the from sender address field and in the To line.

So will need support tickets raised to see why you’res and @edash doesn’t.

Hey @drpineapple & @edash

I agree with @cyberzork and do not experience the issue.
However, if you are NOT using the latest version of eMC you6 should
check and upgrade here:

(Release History | eM Client)

If you do upgrade first make a Backup: Settings/Backup
Then shut down/exit eMC BEFORE running any update.
I do not know if this will resolve your issue though you will at least
have the latest version of eMC

I am also having this issue. When I reply or reply all it sets my global default as the “To” email address despite the email having been sent to me at one of my secondary email addresses. Note, this secondary email address the email was sent to is shown in the “Cc” field. But, I now have to make sure to remove my global default email address from the “To” field and move the secondary email address from the “Cc” field to the “To” field before sending my reply. This is not how it has always worked. Prior to this update, the email address shown in the “To” field of my reply was always the email address the original email was sent to.

Seems like this might be the new expected behavior. I think one distinction is that my other emails are forwarded to a single account. The old behavior is to use the “TO” address as the “FROM” address if it exists (in accounts or aliases). The new behavior is to use the address of the account that the email is in. That is why the “All Inboxes” solution works for some. I am assuming that users have individual email accounts setup in emclient instead of having multiple addresses forwarding to one address. I am going to downgrade and use the older version which works better for me.
