sending email to a hotmail account fails

When using emclient to send an email to a hotmail account it usually fails to deliver.

I get an email like below from ‘[email protected]’ (recipient name replaced with “removed”)

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently:

Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** [email protected] ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server .

If I send an identical email direct from the mail server (Greenby - Roundcube) the mail gets through.
I would rather not have to do this.

Is emclient ‘packaging’ the email in a manner that hotmail doesn’t like ?

It didn’t use to be a problem but has been happening for several months now.
Am on latest version (10.4.5606)

As your sent mail sends ok with an differant smtp server and gets through, it carn’t be a Hotmail receiving server issue.

One possibility is eg: if you have a Domain address and its not SPF, DKIM or DMARC compliant, it can get removed or rejected at the receiving end. Here is a good read on that if you are not familiar with that.

IF you don’t have a domain email address or you do and its already SPF, DKIM or DMARC compliant, then update what your SMTP Server settings are so we can check if there is anything obvious wrong. Blank out anything personal.
