Select alternative storage location for initial Outlook import

I’m having trouble with eM Client not allowing me to choose where to put imported data and filling up all the remaining space on my SSD when I import my account from Outlook. Is there a solution?

Windows is installed to an SSD with currently about 15 GB free space. I have a separate big HDD for storage. I need to import about 100 GB of emails from Outlook PSTs. After installing eM Client, when I import my Outlook profile, I can’t specify the location. eMC automatically imports to the SSD until it’s full, then waits with the progress bar incomplete, with no further progress or error.

Is there a way for me to tell eMC to put the data on my HDD instead of the default Windows install drive (the SSD)?

I’d rather import the whole account from Outlook than the individual PSTs if I can.

Looking forward to trying eM Client.

You can “specify the path to the Database directory”, in which all your data will be stored via “Menu / Settings (Preferences) / General / Storage”. So whatever hard-disk folder where you have the most available space.

Note: If you do change the database folder, “before changing the database location”, (copy all the exiting folder data from the current database location first) so you can then replace the new blank database after changing the location.

Or you can also in V10 create a (.emdf) external data file (like a .PST file) via "Menu / Data Files anywhere on your hard-disks, which can then either be left permanently mounted or unmounted if you don’t need it allways open.

You can them import mail (including an existing .PST file) into the data file and/or drag or move any exiting account mail into the data file.

See extract below from the following eM Client support documentation on Data Files.

Quote:- “You can create a new Data file manually or convert old PST files into eM Client Data Files (Menu > File > Import). You can also drag & drop an EMDF or PST file onto the folder list to create and/or mount it”.

Thanks very much, I’ll give it a go.
