Scroll position issues after v10

Been trying to get support to experience the same issue but they say that they are unable to replicate so I’d like to see if any other users experience the below or if it’s just on my end.
Windows 10, 64-bit.
Latest eM Client, paid with lifetime.

This seems to have started with v10.
When I click on an email in the message list that is either at the top or middle or somewhere else, then, I minimize eM Client and come back to it later (not right away), it scrolls down to that message and I have to always keep scrolling back up to see the newer messages. It also happens with the first message. It would hide the “Today”. I don’t like that at all!

If another email appears above the first message, I won’t know, because the scroll position remains on that first message and keeps going downward. Meaning, I cannot tell if there’s a new email. Not good for work.

I want the scroll position to remain where it is, the same with any other program.

This can be replicated by locking Windows (with win+L) and then logging back in. First, scroll down a good amount and select a message towards the middle of the list, but make sure you have many emails in that list or there won’t be any scrolling going on, then lock Windows, log back in, and the position will have moved but the opposite of the above issue. There are 2 issues. In this case, it moves it up.

In the first issue I have, it moves it down.

When you highlight an email and then minimize the program, it will then “normally still be highlighted on the same email when you reopen the client” from the taskbar or dockbar. So to then see any new emails since minimised, you would normally then need to scroll up to the top of the Inbox, unless you have a eg: very large display resolution and don’t get many new emails a day.

That’s allways been the case with any mail client I’ve used. There is nothing built into eM Client that I’m aware of to automatically scroll to the top of the Inbox after minimising and reopening. However if there is, then someone will update this thread.

The only time the client goes automatically to the top of the Inbox or All Inboxes is “when you completely close and reopen the mail client”.

However there is a shortcut key you can use to automatically get you back to the top of the Inbox if you are highlighted on an email further down. See @Gary post below from the following thread.

My point is that it actually scrolls us down or up, depending on the situation. It’s not just staying where it is, it’s moving the scroll bar on its own to another position. This happens even if there’s no new email.

Here’s an example I took in August of how it behaves. You can see that after logging back in to Windows, it changes the position. Honeycam 2024-10-04 10-45-21.mp4 - TechSmith Screencast - TechSmith Screencast

I carn’t replicate that same issue as in your video example using the latest eM Client V10.0.3530 for Windows or Mac.

That could be possibly a eg: mouse hardware or mouse software problem that then is moving the scrollbar randomly. up and down when there is no new email in Windows. Or could possibly be eg: a touchpad problem “if you use a laptop without an external mouse” that might be slightly faulty so its then moving the scrollbar randomly on its own. Ive seen that happen before.

So If you are using a desktop or laptop with a corded external mouse, after minimising eM Client “try removing the mouse” and then “Alt-Tab around with your keys in Windows to eM Client” and see if the scrollbar moves randomly when in the foreground. You will then know if its anything to do with the corded external mouse.

Also “if you have any custom external mouse software or custom trackpad mouse software recently installed”, try uninstalling that and see if thats got anything to do with it. Could be some mouse software update recently that has caused that.

Apart from that if eM Client is the only program in Windows that does that, try uninstalling eM Client and “dont delete the database” when asked on the uninstall wizard and then reinstall via the release history page and see if that fixes it.

Or if uninstalling and reinstalling eM Client makes no difference “and no other programs have that issue”, then you might need to test eM Client with a new mail database, by closing eM Client and then renaming your current hidden mail database folder to eg: eM Client-Old and then reopen eM Client and the wizard will appear to setup new. So if you have an IMAP. Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud (Non POP) account and nothing normally stored in Local Folders at the bottom left then all your emails will come back automatically from the server when eM Client connects. Then see if you still get that same scrollbar issue.

eM Client Hidden database folder by default for Windows is in the following location.

“Hidden mail database folder Windows”
“Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\eM Client”

If you have a POP account and / or do also have any messages stored in Local Folders at the bottom left, then in V10 (before closing eM Client), go to “Menu \ Data Files” and “Create a Data File” on your Harddisk which by default goes in “Documents \ eM Client” folder. That data file .emdf will then appear under accounts in eM Client. Then copy all your current POP Messages and any custom POP message folder to the data file. Also copy any Local Folder messages you need to keep to the data file. Then go back to “Menu \ Data Files” and click “UnMount” and save. Then close eM Client and rename the eM Client hidden database folder.

Then when you reopen eM Client and resetup your POP account, click “Menu \ Data Files” and click “Mount” at the top and open your datafile from your “Documents \ eM Client” folder. The data file will then appear under the accounts on the left. You can then open the data file and copy or move all your saved POP Messages and / or any Local folder messages back to your POP account. Then once all back in eM Client, go back to “Menu / Data Files” and click “UnMount” along the top and save. Then test that to see if you still get the same scrollbar issue.

I appreciate your help and everything you wrote. I also saved your reinstallation instructions for the future. I don’t have the time to do that now, but perhaps in the future.

Happy to know you’re not experiencing this.
The win+L one is the one I’m able to replicate each time, with or without a mouse plugged in.
Windows 10.

I think I’ll live with this for now and if I ever upgrade to Windows 11, I hope it will be solved then.
