It is quite helpful that mails can be saved in EML and PDF formats.
However, I have been exporting important emails in HTML format in a separate structure for many years. This allows me to open them at any time with any browser, regardless of the mail program installed.

Most browsers though can already open pdf files standalone like Edge and Chrome do. You also only have the one pdf file rather than multiple html files.
So unless you are wanting to edit the html files separately then yes an export to html is good for that. But not many users would be doing that these days.
Also if you then had to email that to someone, emailing html files are a pain compared to a pdf.
