I need the same folders I created in one installation of EM Client apply to all installations.
I created folders and sorted 2k emails. Now i jump on another computer and the whole mails are unsorted again!
Please help.
Normally they will be the same if all the mail folders are under an IMAP, Exchange, Office 365 or iCloud account. That’s why I personally do.
If they are under a POP account or under Local Folders, then they will only be on that device and won’t sync the same to any other devices.
So if you do have a POP account or you do keep Messages stored in Local Folders, then you can use the built-in backup and restore via “Menu / Backup” which then creates a dated backup.zip file in your “Documents / eM Client” folder where you can then transfer that to any other computer and restore that (using the same version of eM Client) via “Menu / File / Restore”
The backup backs up everything including all your accounts, calendar, contacts, tasks, tags and mail folders etc. So is an easy way to make another computer exactly the same or identical.
The other way to have the same identical mail folders if you have a POP account or keep messages in Local Folders is eg: If you have eM Client V10, you can create an external data on your hard-disk via “Menu / Data files” called a (.emdf) file and then drag / move messages and message folders to that. The data file goes by default in your “Documents / eM Client” folder.
Then unmount the data file and then copy that .emdf data file to the new computer and then mount it. The mounted data file will then appear under your accounts above Local Folders at the bottom left and be identical to the first computer.
If you then update new messages or message folders etc to the data file on one computer, then just unmount it and copy / transfer it to your other computer and “overright the old .emdf data file”. Then mount it again on your other computer.
