Hello,
For the same address can I use the POP version of the account at the same time as the IMAP version.
If so, are there any precautions to take or is coexistence going smoothly?
If you are connecting to “the same remote account mailbox” with the same login name and password, the mail client I suspect could get an error or may not work properly at all.
Eg: POP accounts by default (unless you set the account in eM Client to leave a copy of messages on server for X days), will download the messages to the mail client inbox and then delete all the messages on the server end, so then there will be no mail to d/l in the IMAP same account depending on which account checks first. There is no manual control which one checks first.
So even if you setup the POP account in eM Client to leave a copy of messages on the server for X days, there is no guarantee it will work as eM Client will be trying to synchronise the POP and IMAP accounts within seconds of each other. So it’s not really advisable for you to do that.
Are you wanting to do that for any particular reason ?
Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
Currently on my PC, I use eM Client in POP.
My intention is to also use the IMAP account to perform a cleanup from my PC for my other devices.
Some emails are useful on my PC but not on my other devices.
IMAP also allows you to access any spam found on Webmail or to send spam considered legitimate to the spam folder.
To avoid any conflict when collecting mail, I could uncheck the “Include when sending/receiving” parameter of the IMAP account and activate it when I want to sort my messages.
What do you think of this solution?
To avoid any conflict when collecting mail, I could uncheck the “Include when sending/receiving” parameter of the IMAP account and activate it when I want to sort my messages.
No that option to uncheck include when sending and receiving, won’t work for IMAP accounts and will only work for POP accounts.
The only way to stop the IMAP account from synchronizing is to either “Disable all the services under the IMAP account General Tab” or “Remove the IMAP account completely” and then add it later when you want it again.
OK. Thanks.
I chose another solution.
I set the IMAP account in the new Outlook (which replaces Mail and Calendar).
This way things (POP and IMAP) will be well separated.
Usually, I will work with eM Client in POP and, if necessary, with Outlook in IMAP.
