Rules stopped functioning in update 10.0.3447.0

Updating from 10.0.3351.0 to 10.0.3447.0 all rules for incoming and outgoing emails have stopped
functioning automatically. When on 10.0.3351.0 all was OK.

Win 11_x64

Possible solution found:
Since I have my contacts in separate books i.e. all my friends addresses in friends address book.
I deleted all rules I had in version 3351 and recreated in v. 3447. Now everything works fine.
Observation : When updating v. 3351 to v.3447 there is a bad impact on already existed rules.
Hope help others.

Hi, we have a fix for the rule issue prepared for the next update (not the current 10.0.3447 unfortunately) but there is a workaround that can resolve the bug without an update (or need to re-make all rules).

Go to Menu>Accounts
Open the POP or IMAP tab of the affected account.
Change any detail in this tab - for example the number of days the messages should be kept on the server or the sync options etc. (You can change this back later of course)
Save this change.
Restart eM Client.
Now the rules should be applied correctly and you can reverse any settings change you made previously.

Hi Olivia,

I deleted 65 rules still working since version 8 and then I recreated them. The application is running now perfectly. In no way could I follow your work-around now.Thank you anyway.

I understand and am sorry to hear this workaround does not help now - I just included it in case someone else with the same issue stumbled on this post so that they would know that re-creating the rules is not needed.

It’s OK and thank you again but you have to understand that we, as users cannot think of work-arounds when we face a problem but we act according to our experiences.
**Just one request. **
When there is a new update don’t just mention: - Other bug fixes but you can report the bugs short described.

This issue should be fixed in this build:

Hi,
I downloaded and tested.
When send an email local rules are not applied. Email stays in IMAP sent folder not tagged as the local rule instructs. When local rule is applied manually on IMAP sent folder, email is tagged and then is moved to sent of local folders following the local rule.

LOCAL RULES ARE APPLIED CORRECTLY ON INCOMING MESSAGES

Try your best to release the update solving the problem.
It’s becoming very annoying and time consuming.
It seems that v. 3475 is not working correctly yet.

When send an email local rules are not applied. Email stays in IMAP sent folder not tagged as the local rule instructs. When local rule is applied manually on IMAP sent folder, email is tagged and then is moved to sent of local folders following the local rule.

Can you screenshot the Local sending mail rule with the tag that doesn’t work as an example.

I have separate rules for each address book.
Sent folder is the one in the local folders (not the one in the IMAP account)

Till the fixing update is released, I turned temporaritly to Thunderbird.

Ok i setup an automatic rule like yours using the V10.0.3475 as @Michal_Burger linked in his post further up the thread in Win 11, to automatically send one of my Gmail IMAP Address contacts to my “Local Folder Sent folder” after sending and Tag / Label it Brigwald.

Now after the message sent, “it appeared as normal in the Gmail IMAP Acct Sent folder” and it “also appeared in the Local Folder Sent folder” at the bottom as per the 3rd screenshot below.

Now if i run the rule manually, the sent Gmail IMAP Message “still always remains in the Gmail Account Sent Folder” after sending “as well as showing in the Local Folder sent folder”.

So if that automatic rule is supposed to also “completely remove the sent message from the Gmail Acct Sent folder” after it sends and “then only show in the Local Folder sent folder”, then it doesn’t work for me. Ive never setup a rule like that in the past so can’t confirm if this ever worked before in any version of eM Client.

@Michal_Burger should that “automatic move to folder sent rule” below, also remove the sent message from the Gmail IMAP Acct Sent Folder after sending ?

(Rule Setup to move to Local Folder sent folder)

Stop searching for magical tricks & tips or work-arounds.
The developers should look into this problem arose in v.10 and release an immediate update.
Same problem reported by many users.

There is no message for the Rule to move when you click on Send as the message is created later by the server after the message has been sent, and then synced back to eM Client. So for providers where the server creates the sent message, like Gmail, Rules won’t apply automatically to sent messages.

This is not something new in 10, it has always been like that.

Ok so then that (automatic move to local folder sent rule) example is correct for Gmail, where is then “only just makes a copy of the sent message” in the Local Folder sent box after sending, & doesn’t move it "due to there is nothing in the Gmail sent folder at that time to move when the message actually sends.

So nothing wrong with eM Client in that scenario.

@Gary
Problem arose after updating v. 3351 to v.3447 (in Gmail & Outlook accounts).
Previously no problem.
Why in Thunderbird all is OK ? Are the providers more favourable to TB? Of course not.
Please stop saying that: “So nothing wrong with eM Client in that scenario”. The problem there is and should be fixed asap.
Any further details from @Michal_Burger and @Olivia_Rust would be appreciated.

P.S. Are there maybe any sync problems between EmClient and providers’ servers?

I had similar problem with rules that not working, even since beta. And problem was not fixed, even when reported.

BUT - I found a solution.

First of all - you can check if rules are working by creating rule that adds some tag to all incoming messages. The you’ll see if all received messages are tagged or if some of them are not. If not all messages are tagged - you have problem.

In my case, I had few IMAP and few POP3 accounts and this problem was only with POP3 acocunt. And my problem was only when eM Client perform automatic check at start. Manual or periodic check (sync) works ok.

My solution was - I enter mailbox management and move up POP3 account. Then, after save, I entered mailboxes management again and move down the same account (so I revert it to previous state). After that - no unprocessed messages (all had my test tags) when I started eM Client.

Problem is a little hard to solve using standard “step by step” technique. It requires look at code based on user’s description, which is not very popular method. Unfortunately - you cannot just install eM Client and create accounts to reproduce it. Newly created accounts will work. You need to have mixed list of accounts (IMAP and POP3) and upgrade eM Client from 9 to 10.

@lamkarlef

Why in Thunderbird all is OK ?

Based on what @Gary advised where eM Client only syncs the sent mail back from the server to eM Client (after it sends), then its unknown how Thunderbird can even remove the message from the Gmail or Outlook IMAP sent folder straight away and then only show it in the Local folder “at the time the automatic rule runs” (due to the sent message hasn’t even initially appeared yet in the IMAP sent folder) and it does take a some seconds before it appears in the IMAP sent folder from the server. For myself it’s approx 5secs.

So the only way that could work in theory is eg: the automatic rule would have to be modified to wait for the sent message to sync back from the server, and then remove it from the Gmail or Outlook IMAP account sent folder, so it would then only appear in eM Client Local folders sent box.

However even if that could be done somehow, the problem then is “all your other device same IMAP acct sent folders would no longer have any sent mail” as the sent mail “now only resides in the eM Client desktop Local folder sent box”.

So this rule in my opinion would really only be useful for a POP account where you don’t want any sent mail on any other devices.

I wonder why @cyberzork and @Gary insist that there is no problem.
So, let’s wait for the forthcoming release.
