Rule to Remove Emails that are Older Than N Days

Use Case for Inbox Management
I get a lot of email notifications from the county, nearby libraries, local traffic reports, local police activity, weather alerts, data center incident updates, etc. These kinds of emails have a very short shelf-life. :spiral_calendar: :headstone:

I’d like to automatically get rid of them automatically after a while, especially if they’ve been been neglected.

e.g., If I’m gone on vacation, I don’t need a note about a frost alert that’s already past.

Feature Request
When an email is received from [email protected], I’d like to be able to have that trigger a sweep of my Inbox and delete any other emails from [email protected] that are older than N days. This way, if something is important and is moved, it’s safe. If I don’t see something immediately, I can still skim it.

If the trigger mechanism was independent of the action, for example upon [email protected] I might also remove all [email protected] emails too, it’d be extra helpful. In some cases, even N hours is useful.

Let Me Know If I I Somehow Missed It
So far, I’ve be unable to find a way to do this with eM Client, as it’s rules tend to apply to the individual incoming our outgoing email item itself.

I use exchange’s retention policy for folders like these. I have one logging folder delete at 30 days and EM client keeps up with it perfectly.

Another approach is if you click on one of the messages in the message list, on the right hand side, under History, you will see all the messages from that sender. Click on one of the messages in the History list, (in Windows) click CTRL-A to Select All, then press delete. That deletes all the messages from that sender. Takes 2 clicks, 2 keyboard actions. And you delete when you want.

@dma2112 – none of my mail solutions use Exchange, so I don’t believe I have that option to set retention. For clarification, it’s only these particular short-term “update” emails that I want to have a short life, the rest of the mail I’d like to keep.

@Tony_W – that’s a sweet tip. For clarification, I am interest in reading only the latest items, which I suspect I could just nuke manually after scanning a few. But as I’m often away from email for days at a time, it’d be nice to come back to 10 new messages rather than 1000. This kind of tedium seems exactly the kind of thing a computer would be good at addressing, especially since a rule-based trigger already exists.

All that said, thank you to everyone who’s coming up with out-of-the-box solutions in the meanwhile. It’s greatly appreciated.

In the History list of messages from your specific sender, you can click on the messages, say starting at the top and check the pop-up preview for content. Though I find the text in the pop-up too small, but it may serve you.

@wls

The Rules in eM Client 11 are getting a complete overhaul from reading the threads, so suggest to wait for that and see if there is an updated rule then to help you when it’s released.

Or submit a Sleekplan suggestion for what you want where others can also vote on it too.

The only thing I’m aware of currently is the eg: automatic archive which removes email older than x days, but using that “would affect all email in an account” and not just the specific emails.

So sounds like you possibly need a new rule option added. If there is a way to do that with the current rules and you have an active paid Pro, Personal or Business version, go to the VIP support page and login and lodge a support ticket.
