Just installed Win 8.1 and Em Client. In Windows File Explorer the right click send to does not work and comes up with an error saying “There is no email program associated to perform the requested action…”
But when you go into a Control Panel to set default programs, Em Client is the default.
I installed Thunderbird and it worked fine. So I went back into control panel and changed the default to EM Client, and I get the error again.
The only way I could partially work around it was to create a shortcut in the send to folder that directly linked to EM Mail, but this then did not give me the option of shrinking the photos. Nb. I use send to extensively for shrinking and emailing photos in just 2 mouse clicks. I know I can shrink photos in another program, but that is not time efficient and creates unnecessary files on the hard disk.
Any fixes? Or how to create a shortcut in send to that calls up the utility for shrinking photos before emailing?
Hi Fred, can you please install .NET version 2 on your computer, this issue was related to a missing .NET 2 installation in the past. Apparently this function is using some of it’s components in order to work properly.
Thanks Paul. It’s a new computer build so I would rather not install old OS software such as .net2. I will work around it for the time being as the next update or version of EM Client might have it fixed.
Hi Fred .NET 2 is not an old OS software, it still contains some components that may be crucial for some features for multiple applications.
This actually seems to be a system issue related to missing .NET 2 framework. Please consider installing the package, but if you rather not, let us know if you come across any other issues that we might help you with.
I actually got it to work in Windows 8 with a local account. When switching to the clients Microsoft account on the PC it again refuse to work. After 5 hours of frustration I gave up for the moment. Not a happy camper at all.
I have just set EM up on a brand new HP laptop and it works under Microsoft account. After checking, it has .NET 2 installed. HP bloat the machines with every bit of software ever produced. Being old school, less software is better. Like a light weight sports car.
So the .NET 2 seems to be the fix. My desktop is on local account and it doesn’t work.
On the desktop I am trying to keep the software to a minimum. As I use IMAP accounts I have thunderbird set up as the default so it can respond to right click mail sending. For normal use I use EM Mail. When EM is fixed I can cleanly uninstall thunderbird. Although I do like the histogram of emails vs date in the email search on thunderbird. Suggestion for EM?
Hi Fred, if I understand this correctly you were able to use the feature when .NET 2 was installed?
Thank you for the suggestion we’ll make sure to consider it for future releases.
