Return-Receipt-To not included in header

Hello,

when I use “request delivery receipt” in Outlook it includes “Return-Receipt-To” part in header. Emclient does not include those section into header.

The difference in behavior is, that the most of mail clients send return receipt when a message is opened by user. How can I do this working in emclient? Is it possibility at least to use custom headers?

The advantage is, that I don’t need to use “read receipt” which can be ignored by other party.

PS: The functionality of server part is not affected. It works in emclient in standard way: when mail server receives email it sends delivery report immediately.

Thanks for ideas / solution

Hi Julius, not really sure what the issue is. Custom headers are currently not supported in eM client. What receipts settings are you using in eM client?
Are you having some issues while sending/receiving receipts?

What version of eM client are you currently using?

Thank you,
Paul.

Hi,

when writing new message I checked “request delivery receipt” in Tools menu. I am using 6.0.21040.0 version.

Issue is, that if “Return-Receipt-To” is not present in message header, recipient’s client will not send back to me the delivery receipt when email is opened. (Do not confuse the read receipt - it is the different).

Thanks

Hi again,
delivery receipts or DSNs are requested at the time of sending by the sending application or server software (not inside the email or headers itself).

Hope this helps,
Paul.

Hi,

but there is something like delivery receipt on server level and client level. It is described here https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mozilla.support.thunderbird/PRlFqd4BdIQ
The server DSNs are part of the protocol and client ones (“Return-Receipt-To” or “Disposition-Notification-To”) are part of the header. RFC here https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3798
Is it implemented in emclient or not?

Thanks

Hi, eM Client is using delivery receipts based on this extension https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3885 , please note that the feature you’re describing is a feature that does not exist. You’re requesting read receipts (based on sending the receipt at the moment the message was opened by the user), but this is not possible to achieve using delivery receipts.

Hope this helps,
Paul.

Hi Paul, I fully understand, but feature that I described is implemented in Outlook (also thunderbird seems to have it) when I check “request delivery receipt”  and I supposed it is implemented also in emclient. This feature is important for me. I wanted to switch from Outlook to emclient, but it will not be possible in my case :frowning:

But if you request delivery receipt, the receipt is returned to you once the message is delivered to outlook, not when the user reads it.
You can request delivery receipt in eM Client too, it uses a different method, but the delivery receipt will be delivered back to you if requested, or are you having some issues with the feature?

Thank you,
Paul.
